Traveling Trophy?

What do you guys think about chipping in and getting a small travelling trophy?  If we all put in a small amount we could get something that would serve more as a physical status symbol at home for a year... and the rest we could throw back to Steve.

Currently the GBRFL pays $40 in league fees each year.  The idea to implement this second league was Steve's idea and he set it up for us to be free, however it would make sense if we at least came up with a little something.

In one manner, I think we should agree (on our own) to at least put in as much as the GBRFLers.  On the other hand, I have a hard time parting with any money - $40 is a lot for me right now.  Something would be better than nothing, and I am curious as to what the rest of you think.

I support this idea as well.  This site contains a lot of valuable information and I appreciate Steve's efforts... especially getting the ball rolling with GBRFL2!

How about this:

We make the league fee 40 bucks. 5 dollars of that money per person for next season can be put towards a trophy. 15 dollars of that money per person can be donated to the Gridiron every year for Steg's efforts. Then, the remainder of the money (200 dollars) can go to the champion.

Curious how younz feel about this angle...

The league was initiated as a free league and now we are looking to change the rules. I almost think changing to a pay league of any type needs to be approved by a substantial majority - hopefully unanimous.

I agree, anything that is proposed should be put to a league vote.

I think what Steg is saying here is that he has graciously given us his time and effort to create this league for us. I think we should at least as a group send him a few bones to show our apprieciation. I also agree we should all kick in 5 bucks for a trophy. We don't have to make it a money league, but we should at least give back to Steg. My

I no problem kicking some coin in for the trophy or the site.  But guys, we have a vehicle to donate to the site now, on our own, without a league vote.

This is what I was getting at.  I'm not going to toot my own horn, because I'm not like that, but I spend a lot of time producing content for this site in addition to making financial donations when I can, and I also try to use some of the merchants here (namely Amazon) when possible.  I play in a money league with my friends and that is where I choose to spend my money for fantasy football.  I need to draw a line and keep one league to a money league and the rest free if I can.  I have no desire to play in a second money league.  I really have no need for a trophy either (not that I'd get it based on my record for the past two years).  If it turns out that I'm the only one not interested in a trophy, then I'd certainly chip in the $5 or whatever it is to keep the rest of the owners happy.  But, like Chumpzilla said, if you like the website and appreciate the work that Steg is doing for us (which I most certainly do), then go ahead and click that link in the post above mine.

I'm proud to say that I've just made a $25.00 donation to the site. I know it's not much, but if we all pull together and give what we can, we'd really make a difference and show our appreciation for everything Steg does at the same time. I was talking to him earlier today, and learned that he has to upgrade the Gridiron's service package with our host (again), and it isn't cheap! We'd most certainly be paying for a league like this at any other site, and it's not fair to leave Steg with the bills. That's my take. Here's hoping everyone does the right thing and donates... Happy Holidays.

The "bottom line" of what is being stated here above is that it helps with the "bigger picture"!

So many great things can be accomplished with a "co-op" mentality (which is what I am trying to engender)!

...

Ya know one of our donors has made a three-digit donation (and it wasn't Philly, mind you, though he has been very generous).  I want to make this clear, though.  That's NOT really what I am looking for.  Though it surely helped and was welcomed, it was quite humbling.  I would MUCH rather see 10 guys (in a league here) pool together 10 bucks a piece and send me 100 bucks for running and growing the joint.  That way (that $100 would have caused) 10 people (to) have become more involved in the cause here (instead of just one) and, as well, I wouldn't feel like I am dipping too deep into anyONE's pocket (which is NOT my intention or desire).

...

Regarding the recent upgrades specifically, it's strictly all about space.  I've gone over limit once this year about two months ago forcing me to up my hard-drive space by 50 MB's.  I am about 3 MB's away from needing to do so again.  Roughing it, it tags on another (low) three-digits onto my yearly fee.

THIS IS NOT TO ALL OF YOU!!!  You know who you are if it is not...

This just regards a general epiphany I had today when thoughtfully giving my response to a particular post and the following age-old adage popped into my head (especially given the time of year).  I never really understood it, or should I say felt it, before quite the way I do now having undertaken this venture:
