Q-n-A and Campaign thread for Nominees for opening

Nominees:  Who wants in and why?  What do you bring to the table and why do you think you would be a good addition?  And, what questions do you have about the league, its participants and participating in it?

Current GBRFL2ers (and yours truly):  Ask your questions!  Probe!

I have questions.
1. Do I get to pay anything to operate a team with a fired guy who was never hired, a retired guy along with a guy who should retire as well as a dude with one knee?
2. Is it possible to build a team around Keenan McCardell?
3. Would it help if I researched who Jason Cambell and Micheal Jenkins are?

The Ex "Mashed Potato's" owner said this team will be competitive next year.

I'm in the restoration business! I'll give it a go. I'm sure I'll have more serious questions later

That leads me to my first question...

Would you be willing to trade me both of those stiffs for a stud like Travis Henry?  (You've got my vote if you agree   )...

Just kidding of course.

IF you are granted permission to compete with the hallowed heroes of the deuce league, what would your team name be?

OK, now that you're done ripping on the team and its former owner, do you have anything positive to say?

My question to all new prospective owners:

How would you go about fixing (or overhauling) the available franchise?

If you do not want to reveal your secrets, that is understandable.

I think my question is valid. This thread is giving him a chance to introduce himself and show us what he brings to the table, and he used his first post to rip the team, and yes, my friend. So far I'm not impressed.

Come on!  Is there even any "trash talk" there?  He's just putting in context what is surely going to be a restoration effort.

Look, Jimmy went out the wrong way, Jamie.  Steelkings was only refering to what Jimmy himself boldly wrote.  The fact that steelkings could refer to that quote means that he took the time to sift through the stuff and find it, which impresses me a little bit.  Jimmy made himself a target.  If he did not go out the way he did and make such a (needlessly) bold claim in the process, steelkings wouldn't have had anything to refer to.  That's the bottom line.

Moving right along,...

Travis Cooper, gridiron_legends, sent me a very sincere thank you message for the invite we extended to him, but has pulled himself from the running based on concerns about how much he'd be able to commit given his schedule over the next year.  So, we are officially down to four candidates...

Sorry bro! I dont know Jimmy. Nothing personal to him. I'm sure he's a fine friend. His football team is in bad shape though. I'm still getting a feel for the rules and scoring system. what I do know is that the team scored an appoximate average of 11 pnts a game while his opponent scored somewhere in the nieghborhood of 32 pnts per game. I dont know how to fix it yet. I do know it will take some time to do. It will take lots of patience to avoid critical frustration of losing many games. Purhaps thats what happened to J.C.

Here's something positive...I'll have Carson Palmer !

Here's a question. When is the lottery?  Is there a live draft? Whats the date? Do you load the draft like the NBA? It would go a long way in helping heal this team if it had one of the first 2 picks. Is it a snake draft? it would also help if it wasn't.

I probably could research this stuff if need be.

Great follow-up post, sk!

(Rather meaningless point of clarification (to the task at hand),...) Not really, sk,... he, for all intents and purposes, unfortunately burnt his bridge with me.

In any event,... moving right along... to stuff that matters in the here and now...  This is not about what Jimmy did then.  It's about what our candidates do and don't do now.

...

Quote:
I probably could research this stuff if need be.

Most of what you ask here, sk, would be difficult to research, if even possible, so I'll lend you a hand...

Quote:
When is the lottery?

It will be sometime within a week or so of the draft, perhaps (but not likely) not until the day of if we decide to fall in suit with the "mother league" this year.

Quote:
Is there a live draft?

It's conducted here on the GBRFL2 board over the period of about (ideally no more than) a week or so.

Quote:
Whats the date?

Still TBA...  It'll be sometime between late July and late August.  Flexibility is definitely a boon here.

Quote:
Do you load the draft like the NBA?

I'm not exactly sure what that means...  The bottom five teams are in the lottery.  I or some other "mother league" representative (I think it was DirkDiggler last year) will do the drawing.  The 10th place team (the available one) gets 5 cards in the hat; 9th - 4; 8th - 3; 7th - 2; 6th - 1, and the top five teams then simply pick in reverse order of finish.

Quote:
It would go a long way in helping heal this team if it had one of the first 2 picks.

As per the above.  It's not guaranteed, but VERY likely.  Do remember, though, that every team has 12 (tradable) protection spots, so 120 players will be protected.  The draft is, by and large, a rookie draft.  There won't be all too many high, high quality veterans available.

Quote:
Is it a snake draft? it would also help if it wasn't.

The good news,... it isn't.  It's the same order every round, i.e., if you get the first pick, you have the first pick in every round, i.e. picks 1, 11, 21, 31, etc., etc.

Great questions, sk!

I agree with Steg. Steel has already shown the interest to atleast look at the scores from years past, as well as look into the old posts for information on what happened. This to me shows a great deal of (important) participation. If he is taking this amount of time to research without even being in the league, what will he do when his reputation is on the line? I also think he showed another important trait in his first post, HUMOR!
I think a horse has pulled ahead......

I do want to announce that I received a very gracious e-mail from Kevin Anderson, Oakland4life.  He commits heavily to the leagues he's in, which means he would have been a great owner in the GBRFL2, but he is already in two, both of which are very important to him.  I can empathize.  That's enough (if you really care).  In that light, I am happy he has decided to graciously step aside.  He did indicate what an honor it was to even be considered, and I surely appreciate that.  ...  Three now remain in the running.

My first question to the league would be   "How did ya'll let Chia get the team he has??????" Matty..you're obviously brilliant or a great prognasticator!! Probably both!   Really the league looks great..I think I can revive JC's team, just needs a little polish and some calculated and ballsy, untraditional moves (and of course some time)

Simply ... I want in because I see a challenge here. This team has potential for a maticulous, patient owner. I would be a good addition because you would receive my full participation   ....and that is what it is all about.

Okay, we are officially down to two candidates, the two who have posted.  I received a nice e-mail from Rick, rickgpin, thanking us for the opportunity but indicating that it would probably be better that he step aside.  I truly appreciate his gratitude, and while it's a bummer that he's decided to take his hat out of the ring, I appreciate his forthrightness in doing so.

Seriously GBRFLers, whoever ya'll pick...I'm sure will  participate heavily and likely would be a formidable foe in your league for a long time to come. Steel's a good guy and very knowledgeable in the realm of FF..so good luck to ya' my brother, if you're called up I'll be rootin' you on! Without even trying, Steg came up with an interesting FF team name in a post I saw somewhere on the GBRFL2 site where he wrote  "insane, inane, mind-bending dissection of numbers":

Okay...  I've got a two-part question for yous, sk, MC.  Part one now...  Part two later...  The question for now is...

Assuming you guys are playing in other leagues, perhaps "hometown" leagues, where will this one rank in importance for you?

I participate in two leagues currently. Both leagues have basic scoring systems like you'd find in just about any public league. Simple. They are both money leagues and consist of "hometown" friends and co-workers, etc. I am the commissioner of one that has been in existence since 1994. This league is pretty important to me because of the friendships involved. These are boys that I've known literally all my life. It keeps us together and still has 7 of it's original 10 members...not bad. I absolutely love it for it's simplicity as well as for the good times it has given my circle of buds.

The GBRFL2 league consists of what I hope to be "new" friends. This league presents a challenge that I've not  had in FF since 2002 when I played one year in a similar league. GBRFL2  has the format I can sink my teeth into and I can see will require more strategy and thought. This league would be my "play for pride"  league. The sheer competition in this league will hold my attention...the other leagues will continue to hold my attention as well, but for sentimental reasons.
