Winter Meeting & RULES DISCUSSIONS & VOTING!

Guys, What shall we do for the Winter Meeting this year? Frank has hosted it the last couple years. What do we want to do this year? Where and when do you want to have it? We always say that it would be nice to have it the last week of the regular season. That would mean having it on either Saturday, December 28th or Sunday, December 29th. I actually could swing it, but I understand that this is a VERY busy time of year and this is VERY short notice, especially for those who live a ways away but want to try to make it. It looks as if I will be in town for at least the next two and half months. So, after the above-mentioned dates, based on my open schedule, we could do it any of the following Saturdays or Sundays through the Pro Bowl February 2nd. This includes: Saturday, January 4th; Sunday, January 5th; Saturday, January 11th; Sunday, January 12th; Sunday, January 19th; Super Bowl Sunday, January 26th. What do you guys think? What fits in each of your respective schedules? Regarding the "agenda" for the Winter Meeting, as the Summer Meeting is usually pretty jam-packed with stuff to do, awards presentations and, of course, the Draft, one thing a number of us seemed to agree about is the idea of making the Winter Meeting more so the one where we deal with rules modifications and additions and such. Here are a couple things to note along these lines: 1) We need to hammer out this "Coach of the Year" thing. There are some details that I realized we failed to consider; 2) One good idea regarding a rule addition that was brought to my attention during the season was the idea of adding "Fewest Fumbles" as an offensive category of some sort; this would not be a headache to add given the stats package I now use. If you have any other ideas, feel free to bring them up on this thread. HOWEVER, NOTHING IS TO BE VOTED ON HEREIN. Just discuss stuff here! When we determine the date for the Winter Meeting, I will let you all know how to proceed with submitting your votes if you are not going to be present at the meeting. Guys, please respond A.S.A.P. to this, especially with regards to the issues regarding the scheduling of the Winter Meeting. That needs to be dealt with pronto, especially if we want to hold it sooner rather than later. Thanks! Steve

Once again, I am willing to have the winter meeting at my place in Hoboken. This usually is not a well received alternative because everyone lives South of me... but the offer is extended. I can do it on Sunday the 29th. However, I cannot do it on the Saturday the 28th. I will be returning from vacation on Friday and need to go down the shore on Saturday (to pick up my dog) . Therefore, if the meeting is held at Frank's or a bar in Monmouth or Ocean (I think that watching the games at a sports bar would also be fun), that would be good for me considering that I will be in the area. Otherwise, getting down the shore could be tough because I dont have a car. DB

Well, based on the feedback I have received thus far, holding the Winter Meeting this Sunday in Toms River at Frank's or just out and about in the Monmouth or northern Ocean county areas does not seem out of the question. Let's face it. I would only expect the guys "in the area" to be in attendance: Frank, D. B., Doug, Pak, Trout and myself. Of that group, it seems like everybody is a go for this Sunday except, possibly, for Pak. I will try to get through to him this evening and post here if I have an update. Otherwise, with or without Pak, do you guys want to go for it this Sunday? I know I'm game!

Guys, The Winter Meeting is going down today, unbelievably. It will be held at Frank's in Tom's River and five of the locals will be in attendance: Frank, Trout, D. B., Doug and myself. Pak is well, in football terms, questionable, but if he does show up, it will be pretty late. We will be discussing rules issues, something I would like to avoid doing at the Summer Meeting & Draft. We just have too much to do then. There are a couple (valid) things Joe brought up, which we will be discussing and voting on. We will also be dealing with the "Coach of the Year" thing. Regarding voting, I will do things in reverse this year since the decision to have the meeting today has been so sudden. After we do our voting today, I will NOT finalize things. I will contact all who were not present to vote. I will probably do so right here on our board on "the Gridiron" where discussion can also be remotely, but readily, conducted. I will give those who were not present at the meeting a due date to get their votes in and will tally them on that date. If you are not going to be in attendance BUT would like to participate in the discussions and voting more directly, give us a call at Frank's between 1:00 and 6:00. His home phone number is on our "Owner Information Page". Well, I gotta' hit the road here soon. Be in touch and enjoy the games today, oh, and the crowning of a NEW GBRFL Champion!

Well, four dudes ended up being in attendance at the "Winter Meeting." One other brother gave me his votes on the issues at hand by phone. Anyway, we are considering holding another "meeting," but January is going to be a crazy, hectic month for me. Sunday, February 2nd, the date of the Pro Bowl, may be the best/ONLY choice for me. Regardless, I think the most efficient, effective and fairest way to go about voting on rules issues is RIGHT HERE on-line on "the Gridiron", anyway, so I think that is how we will proceed. At any rate, we did end up voting on two things: moving the trading deadline to the week after Thanksgiving and adding cumulative fewest fumbles by offensive players as a single 3-point category. HOWEVER, we did NOT deal with the "Coach of the Year" thing or Steve's rule suggestion above regarding the bonus for yards receiving AT ALL. Just to keep things in order, I'd like to (continue to) go about this in two waves. FIRST, I would like to finish discussing and voting on the two issues we have already begun dealing with BEFORE opening discussion and voting on the latter two. SO, everybody's final votes on 1) the "trade deadline" issue and 2) the "fumbles on offense" issue are DUE BY MIDNIGHT (EST) SATURDAY, JANUARY 4TH! I will open a new thread here on the GBRFL message board for discussion and voting on these two issues. PLEASE INDICATE YOUR VOTES ON THAT THREAD. To submit your votes in this "forum" is the most open way to go about it. After I tally the votes and report the results on Sunday, January 5th, I will open A NEW THREAD, titled accordingly, and commence discussion and voting for the "Coach of the Year" and on the issue Steve brought up. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM DISCUSSING THESE LATTER TWO ISSUES UNTIL THEN/ON AN INCORRECT THREAD. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation! Now, go on over and check out the thread titled "ISSUE: 'Trade Deadline & Fumbles on Offense'".
