Kill the pop-up/Save the pop-up & Acknowledgments

This one, based on what its about, is open to vote by both GBRFLers AND GBRFL2ers...

...

It's up to you guys, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT I WOULD LIKE YOU GUYS TO NOT JUST VOTE BUT ALSO GIVE ME INPUT ON ALTERNATIVES.

Since opening "the Gridiron" and providing message boards for the GBRFL and now GBRFL2, there became no need for a "News & Notes" page like our old one (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/newsnotes.htm).  Also, as time goes by, there is less and less need for the pop-up "News Briefs" box that goes with the league home pages and that I know has become "unpopular" with many.  Up until now, I thought it served some purpose, but now I think we are getting to the point where it has almost no point and I am willing to "move with the times".  The plug for "the Gridiron" can be removed as can be the announcement of the establishment of the GBRFL2.  The only thing about it that is still nice and somewhat useful is the announcement of the current league champions.  Remember our home pages, especially, are just as much for visitors as they are for us.  The current champions and the rest of the league top finishers are indicated only at the bottom of the "Game Results" page and, of course, in the case of the champs on the "Champions" page.  All the top finishers used to also be indicated on the "News & Notes" page, but that is now gone/archived/inactive.  So, with that in mind,...

1) Do you vote to keep the pop-up "News Briefs" box on the home pages of the leagues' sites similar to the way it currently is? or

AND, MOREOVER, MORE IMPORTANTLY,

2) If the determination of the vote is to get rid of the pop-up "News Briefs box, I would still like the reigning champions to be commemorated in an obvious place.  So, where/in what conspicuous place do you propose we indicate the current reigning Champions?  If on the home pages of the leagues' sites, exactly where/how?  (PLEASE answer this second set of questions!  Don't just answer the easy yes-no one!  Give me a hand here!  Here is one of those opportunities to have your opinion "count" (in a very direct way)!)

Thanks, guys, for your anticipated assistance!

1)  I would vote to kill the pop-up box.  While I agree it definitely served a useful purpose, it's time may have come.

2)  I also agree that it is appropriate to recognize the reigning champions in each league.  I like that the champions are noted on the home page underneath each league's name.  The only problem is that the names kind of get lost in the shuffle.  Can graphics be easily added without detracting from the page (bold or color changing for example).  Just an idea.

I look forward to see other responses as well.

Thanks Steg!!

1)  I too vote to dispose of the pop-up box (although this nifty new Google toolbar I downloaded kills it anyway).  I think that it doesn't serve any real purpose right now.  If there is need for it from time to time, then I have no problem with it popping up on an as-needed basis.

2)  I think it is good to give props to the league champions.  On the index page of each league, there is a box on the top right advertising the Gridiron Newsstand.  I think anyone in the league already knows about the value of the Newsstand, and the few people that may come into the fantasyfootballer.com domain through the league pages can click on the forums page to access that.  That gives a rather sizeable box to commemorate the reigning champ.

I agree with Chumpzilla --

1) I vote to get rid of the pop up.  All I ever do is close it.

2) I would put the league champions in two places:

1 - On the main GBRFL page, I would put it either above or below the logos (The dude rushing the football with "GBRFL" under him) and,

2 - On the main page of each league, again either above or below the GBRFL Dude.

So far,... so... AWESOME!  All the ideas expressed are great.  There is one in particular that I don't think I would have thought of, at least not right away.

1. I would like to see the pop-up removed.

2. I agree that the past champions deserve to be recognized, but I think the "Champions" link and the "Defending Champion" plug (on the home page) are enough. Everyone playing in the league knows who the champion is, and the guests that care enough to check out our league home page can easily find the "Champions" link. Just my 2 cents...

If you really want to add it in another spot, I think Chumpzilla's idea of Above/Below the logo is great. It would be right in your face, yet completely unobtrusive at the same time.

Right. The "main" page of the Gridiron with the Red Zone, between the 20's, etc... that has the Defending '02 Champion listed just below each league. That combined with the Champions link on the individual league home pages gives plenty of visibility. I wouldn't bother me if it were put in another location, just as long as the pop-up goes.   Off to the picket line...

1. Lose the box.

2. Make a place for the champions on the main page or like Walker said, create another box where the lineups, rosters, owner info is located.

1. Lose the box = get rid of the box. I feel it is no longer needed.

2. I guess last night I misread it. But maybe you can put it with the other boxes I mentioned, like roster, lineups, owner info, etc...

Just a suggestion.

1. I vote to dump the pop ups.

2. I too think the current Champ should be on the main page somewhere. Although I don't believe the NFL does this...j/k.
Below the league name is a good idea.

1 Kill it!!

2.  I like all of the above suggestions.  If I had to choose, I would put it where the American Flag is on the home page.

1. Take away the pop-up. It sounds like this is the overwhelming favorite so I will vote with the masses.

2. Any way to place the year and name of the champ (i.e. 2002-03 champion Plummer Snakes (19-10)) DIRECTLY below the logo in the white space? And if you click on this link, you are taken right to the list of past champions? I have no idea if this is possible (would probably have to shrink the overall logo a touch) and I don't know how much work would go into that - just a suggestion.

Another thought would be to include the same information I discussed above (year, team, record) and add that to the scroll message that appears on the bottom of the web window. That way, you get your credit on the home page and on every page that the scroll happens as well.

The infamous and hated pop-up on the GBRFL league index pages is now gone!

The league Champions and other top finishers are acknowledged as follows:

The Champion is displayed alone on...
1) The respective league index page (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/ or http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl2/);
2) The GBRFLeagues "portal" page, the one you are brought to when you click the bright blue button above (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfleagues.htm);
3) The index page of "the Gridiron" at each respective board (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/), and
4) Of course, the "Champions" page at each respective league site (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/champions.htm or http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl2/champions.htm).

The league Champion along with the second- and third-place finishers are recognized at...
1) The top of the "Standings" page at each respective league site (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/standings.htm or http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl2/standings.htm) along with a NEW "gold-silver-bronze" indication in the final Week 17 standings box, and
2) As always, the bottom of the "Game Results" page at each respective site (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/results.htm or http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl2/results.htm).

I appreciate all of your input on this and I hope what I came up with therefrom is acceptable and, moreover, will be enjoyed.

Congratulations, again, to both Mark Hahn of the GBRFL and Keith Carroll of the GBRFL2!
