Houston Texans - Week 2 Analysis

Obviously, the Texans are coming off a huge high by winning their first game of their existence and on top of that, beating the hated cross-state rivals in the Dallas Cowboys. Look for the Texans to come crashing down to earth this week as they face a San Diego Charger team that destroyed the Bengals last week and held their team to six points. Quarterbacks David Carr had a successful outing last week for an NFL quarterback, but a mediocre to terrible outing for a FF quarterback last week. He should face tons of difficulty this week against a very good Charger secondary that absolutely destroyed Gus Frerotte last week. Carr will face tons of pressure this week and should make his fair share of rookie mistakes, which means very low fantasy stats. Avoid Carr like the plague this week. David Carr - 140 yards passing, 1 TD, 3 INT; 30 yards rushing, 0 TD Runningbacks Dom Capers has gone to a true RBBC in Houston, and James Allen is seeing the higher percentage of the carries in that offense. With Carr expected to struggle this week, Capers is likely to lean on his rushing attack to move the chains. That, of course, will probably fail since the Chargers will gear up to stop the run. Houston's offensive line is severely damaged at this point, with several of their starters taken in the expansion draft still being AWOL for this week's action. Good rush D + hurt offensive line = shut down rushing attack. If you are desperate, start a Houston RB...otherwise, they stay on the bench this week. James Allen - 40 yards rushing, 0 TD, 30 yards receiving, 0 TD Jonathan Wells - 30 yards rushing, 1 TD, 10 yards receiving, 0 TD Wide Receivers See Carr's analysis above. Houston was very fortunate last week that Bradford caught a long pass for a TD. That will have to be the extent of their success against a real defense. I don't expect a long-ball to be had against Schott's control-based defense. Given that, you're looking at many short flat passes for Carr, which does not bode well FF wise for the Houston wideouts. Corey Bradford - 5 receptions, 40 yards, 0 TD Jabar Gaffney - 4 receptions, 50 yards, 0 TD Jermaine Lewis - 1 reception, 20 yards, 0 TD Overall, don't start any Texans this week! I'm looking for a rout...Chargers 31, Texans 14

| In retrospect, here's how they did... Carr - 87 yards, 0 TD, 2 INTs, 27 yards rushing, 0 TDs Allen - 51 yards rushing, 0 TDs, 5 yards receiving, 0 TDs Wells - 3 yards rushing, 0 TDs, 0 yards receiving Bradford - 1 catch, 24 yards receiving, 0 TDs Gaffney - 2 catches, 37 yards receiving, 0 TDs Lewis - 0 catches, 0 yards receiving Final score - Chargers 24, Texans 3 Looks like I gave the Texans more credit that they deserved...but for the most part I was pretty much on. I will make sure to recap my analysis each week...
