Brian Griese, in his first start for the Miami Dolphins, completed 20 of 29 passes for 192 yards and 3 TDs. IMO, there is no controversy, because Brian clearly should be the guy. Up until now, the Dolphins only offensive threat was via the ground game & Ricky Williams. Jay Fielder has a completion percentage of 57% to go along with 6 TDs & 7 INTs. With Griese behind center the Dolphins are a MUCH more dangerous team. Chris Chambers & Co. are very talented WRs. Now they get to showcase their skills with the deep threat. This of course opens up holes for Ricky Williams.

I agree with you. The thing with Fiedler was always that he made good decisions and could read a defense. He wasn't going to lose a game for you, even if he couldn't win it on his own. Now he is throwing more INTs than TDs. So, with that in mind, Griese should continue to get the starting nod until he blows it.
I'm tempering the enthusiasm on this one. This was against the Chargers! They rank 21st in pa.yds allowed and dead last in the league in Passing TDs allowed.
That said, Greise looked to a receiver other than Chambers! I think that's the first time for Miami this year!
I agree Greise should start, but I'm not willing to annoint him Marino's successor yet.
GO VIKES!

3 straight underperforming seasons, one nitwit head coach, 2 problem child WRs, 1 collosal trade bungle....but a wild boat party with booze and hookers!!!????? Priceless.
I have always liked Feidler and stood behind him. Mainly because I am a DOLFAN, but also becasue he reminds me of Jim Harbaugh(Gritty leader). His skills are limted, but ya know what you get with him. I loved Griese out of college, but have been disappointed with his play for 2 years now. He has the skills/talent, but I questioned his fire. He played well last night. I still want to see more. I did say in the offseason that maybe the new scenery will do him some good. I did pick him up in the GBRFL, but didn't start him. He does have a stronger arm than Feidler and will end up the starter this week and the rest of the year unless he gets hurt. We want to see what he has and Jay is a f/a at years end. the Dolphins need a shakeup and this I think will be it.
Well hindsight is 20/20, but I had a pretty good idea Griese was going to get a shot this year. That is why I picked him up off waivers a few weeks ago. (See GBRFL2 link above, Rosters, Fat Chick Thrillers)
Fiedler's lack of arm stregnth was limiting what the offense could do and was not allowing the speed of Chambers, Thompson, and McNight to be utilized properly. He just cannot throw certain passes (Deep Out pattern for example) that Turner wanted to use.
Both Griese and Fiedler are Free Agents so my guess is that Griese will see action for at least a few games so the coaches can see what he can do. My guess is that he performs well and is resigned as the starter for next year.
Griese actually signed a 2 year deal for peanuts, but it is a 2 year deal. They did it that way so that it would work for cap reasons and they will redo it next year.
It was of course against an poor SD Defense. But it was an 3 passing td performance with no ints, when was the last time a qb's throwing arm won a dolphin game. This by a rusty coming off of an injury thrown into a game situation with very little reps with the starters backup qb. Article.
Griese May Remain No. 1 QB With Dolphins ctnow.com: Sports (29.10.2003 08:56) Brian Griese's promotion might be permanent. Miami Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said Tuesday he hadn't decided whether to stay with Griese in Sunday's AFC showdown against the Indianapolis Colts. But Wannstedt was pleased with way Griese sparked Miami's sputtering offense in his first start, a 26-10 victory over San Diego on Monday night.
