EAGLES....................Week 10 Analysis

The Eagles have clawed their way back into playoff contention after a miserable start. The interesting thing is that the Eagles, 5-1 in their last 6, have yet to play a good game. But Donovan McNabb has improved. The running game appears to be solid. Playmakers Freddie Mitchell and LJ Smith are getting more looks. The defense is continuing to make plays despite numerous injuries and should see first round pick Jerome McDougle in regular season action for the first time in 2003. Green Bay comes into the game having dispatched division rivals Minnesota in an exciting Sunday Night Game. They'll be hosting the Eagles on Monday night at Lambeau field and will look to climb above .500 to begin the second half of the season. The Eagles and the Packers both have QBs with injured thumbs. McNabb's seems to be healing as evidenced by better accuracy and yardage the past couple weeks. Favre's thumb, broken, is hurting him on every play, but he is a tough enough QB to play through that pain and help his team. The Eagles will need to control the ball on offense to keep their depleted defense off the field. Look for a heavy dose of Correll Buckhalter with plenty of short passes to LJ Smith and Duce Staley. The Packers will look to send Ahman Green through some holes in the middle of the line and complement his running game with some deep passes to Driver and Walker. Both teams should be able to score this week in an exciting offensive game. When the clock runs out, the Packers offense will have proven to be too much for the Eagles defense. QB: McNabb's thumb seems to be better, although he is still hobbled by an ankle injury and a back injury, plus he missed practice this week with a stomach flu. He should have a decent game against GB, although it won't be enough to win. McNabb: 26-43 288 yards, 3 TDs, 3 carries-14 yards RB: Correll Buckhalter got 23 carries last week and will need to see the ball that many times again to give the Eagles any chance to win the game. Duce Staley spelled Buckhalter effectively and was able to produce a TD run and some other positive gains. Buckhalter: 19 carries-74 yards, 1 TD, 3 catches-12 yards Staley: 6 carries-28 yards, 4 catches-34 yards WR: The Eagles WR corps finally found the endzone last week as Freddie Mitchell made it past the goal line with the ball in his hands. Mitchell and Thrash were able to get open across the middle last week and will look to repeat that against unproven Packer LBs. Pinkston continues to struggle. Thrash: 4 catches-55 yards Pinkston: 2 catches-12 yards Mitchell: 5 catches-67 yards, 1 TD TE: LJ Smith had a breakout game last week gaining nearly 100 yards in receptions. He has the speed to beat LBs and the size to overpower DBs. Smith: 5 catches-70 yards, 1 TD Lewis: 1 catch-8 yards K: Akers is a solid start this week. Akers: 3-3 XP, 2-2 FG Defense: Green Bay has an excellent offense and can move the ball efficiently. Ahman Green has stayed healthy and proven to be a top-tier RB this season. The WRs, while unheralded, do enough to get the job done. Defense: 36 points allowed, 135 rush yards allowed, 185 pass yards allowed, 2 INTs, 1 FR, 2 sacks FINAL SCORE: Eagles 27 Packers 36

| Way 2 go Philly! What do you see happening to Buckhalters #s when Westbrook comes back? You KNOW I'll be a huge Eagles fan this week, but I don't know if the Eagles can slow Farte down enough to win this one.

I don't know how these Eagles are doing it, but they sure are winning ugly. I felt like GB should have been favored before the game also. What about Duce? He looks like he is on a mission to get his job back every time he touches the ball. What do you think? |
| No offense taken at all... just making a lame excuse for my projections being so far off. Anyway, I've always liked Duce. He has always run hard and that one screen pass where he ran over the would-be tackler last night was classic. I was very surprised to see Westbrook at all last night, and I think Reid realized quickly that he didn't have anything to offer. Staley got the bulk of the work because of the rain and Reid couldn't trust Buckhalter not to fumble. I imagine that Staley may see more work as the season progresses because he doesn't make the mistakes that Westbrook or Buckhalter might. He doesn't have the explosiveness, but he is a bear to tackle.
