Houston Texans - Week Ten Analysis

Again, I've been working very late hours, so I apologize for this being so late.
The Texans face one of their most hated opponents this week (which is a sad thing to say) in the Cincy Bengals. The Bungles have been surging as of late, but the Texans have a serious revenge factor in play after last year's embarassing defeat AND humiliation based on Chad Johnson's prediction that they would beat the Texans. The media is all over this down in Houston, and the Texans players interviewed seem to have a serious chip on their shoulders.

David Carr returns to the Texans' offense and has looked very strong in practice, except his mobility is understandably limited due to his ankle sprain. Carr will be looking to prove that he is healthy, and I expect that he will have a good day against an average Cincy secondary. I wouldn't start him this week unless you are in a pinch, however, but this bodes well for the Texans' RB's and WR's.
David Carr - 240 yards passing, 2 TDs, 1 INT; 0 yards rushing, 0 TDs

Domanick Davis returns to the starting lineup this week after getting knocked out of the second half in last week's game against Carolina. Against the reasonably tough Carolina defense, Davis was still able to put up 70+ yards during the time he was in there, and was on pace for another 100 yard game. If you have Davis on your roster, you have to start him this week unless you have two "unbenchable" studs - Cincy's run D gives up 120+ yards/week on the ground. With a David Carr that has limited mobility, he will be looking often to his dumpoff valve. Stacey Mack made an appearance in the redzone last week, which is a little scary for Davis owners - but this appearance was when Davis was gimpy, so don't place too much emphasis on it...yet.
Domanick Davis - 110 yards rushing, 1 TD; 30 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Stacey Mack - 10 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 0 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Tony Hollings - 10 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 0 yards receiving, 0 TDs
WR
This group should be the primary beneficiary of David Carr's return. The Bengals DB's will not be able to keep up with the big WR's of Houston, and you know that Chris Palmer will be looking to exploit that advantage. I expect a lot of three WR sets this week, with the primary targets being Johnson in the flats and Bradford running fly routes. Billy Miller will return to being a forgotten man this week, as he helps more with pass protection than running routes.
Andre Johnson - 4 receptions, 80 yards receiving, 1 TD
Jabar Gaffney - 3 receptions, 40 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Corey Bradford - 3 receptions, 70 yards receiving, 1 TD
Billy Miller (TE) - 2 receptions, 20 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Overall, I expect the Texans will, for the first time in franchise history, win two games in a row in an offensive showdown...

David Carr - 146 yards passing, 2 TDs, 1 INT; 21 yards rushing, 0 TDs
Well, I overshot on the passing yardage, but at least Carr made up for some of that with his 20 yards rushing. Carr was blitzed pretty heavily during the game, and he had several blitzbusting long balls that were dropped by Houston WR's, which deflated his yardage totals. Overall, a successful return to the field...even his INT at the end of the game was a tipped ball that exchanged hands a couple of times.

Terrell...I mean Domanick Davis continues to shine and showed no effects from his Week 9 injury. This kid is really, really special...I'm surprised that Toefield was so highly regarded at LSU while Davis lurked in his shadow. Domanick is officially a top ten dynasty back at this point, and Hollings has a LONG road to hoe to have a shot at being the featured back in 2004. We may actually see a trade in the near future of Hollings if Davis continues to excel.

The big story this week with the Houston WR's was Johnson's dropped balls...he had his opportunities but did not capitalize on them. For the past few weeks, AJohn has disappointed and may simply be seeing much tighter coverage as teams start to respect his ability. I would sit Andre on your bench in most leagues until he comes out of his slump...since Week 4 his yardage totals have been a miserable 49, 71, 29, 64 and 30 with no TDs during that span. It seems like he's hit the same wall as Anquan Boldin, but at least Boldin has shown some signs of breaking out of his funk. Don't drop him, but I'd have a better option starting at this point.

As Philly said...I nailed the Houston score, but their late INT sealed their fate in this game. Close, but no cigar on predicting the win this week.
