| Yea, you're right... I'm sorry! Vis-a-vis the Turkeys, we have only been to 6 Super Bowls and have just 2 (consecutive) Titles. Good luck though next year! That window of opportunity is slowly, but surely closing... Anyway, let's not hijack the thread with this stuff... WELCOME BACK!

An important note regarding how, on "the Gridiron", it is encouraged to place your posts for the sake of keeping things organized, discussions in one place and, ultimately, things easy to locate. It would have been better if the post quoted above were not posted here and instead posted on the "Steelers Offseason Report" thread: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=55;a ction=display;num=1075312845. The article linked to is written from the Steelers perspective of signing Staley vis-a-vis the Eagles perspective of losing Staley. Generally and logically speaking, in such cases, it is better to post on the thread of the destination team rather than the departure team. Thank you all for understanding and, moreover, for anticipatively trying to think things through and do your best to comply in the future. |

When I read yesterday that the Niners were looking to trade down out of the #16 spot, possibly towards the end of the first round where they'd still be able to land a very solid WR, I thought... "Hmm... It would be great if the Eagles could move up to that spot." However, I quickly dismissed it because they did a similar move last year (#30 to #15 for Jerome McDougle) which didn't pay any dividends last year. Also I considered the fact that the Eagles might not be on the top of the Niners' friendly-discussion list in light of the TO situation. Then I see this... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1783721 So maybe the Eagles are looking to move up. At #16, they'd probably be able to get Jonathan Vilma (the next Ray Lewis, in my opinion) - or DJ Williams at the very least. They'd give up OG John Welbourn (who is a very good player who has trouble staying healthy) and a draft pick (probably a #3, since they can't trade either of their #4s - both compensatory picks). So they draft Vilma and then use the 2nd rounder on Boston College OG Chris Snee or LSU OG Stephen Peterman. They can grab Washington DT Tank Johnson and Cal RB Adim Echemandu in the 4th round (Okla St. RB Tatum Bell will probably be gone by then). They'd be able to grab San Jose St. WR Kendrick Starling and Oregon QB Jason Fife in the sixth round. Then, in the seventh round, they could wrap things up with Syracuse C Nick Romeo, Kansas St. CB Randy Jordan, and Duke OT Drew Strojny.

For those of you who weren't in the chat room to witness my response to the Eagles draft on Saturday, I'll lay it out for you now. 1st round: Shawn Andrews, OL, Arkansas -Great player. Will compete for the LG position with the trading of John Welbourn. Could eventually move to tackle when Tra Thomas' contract is up. HOWEVER, they gave up too much for him, in my opinion. Trading up and giving away their second round pick (in a deep draft), and then forgoing Vince Wilfork or DJ Williams was not a good move in my opinion. 3rd round: Matt Ware, CB, UCLA -Tall 6'2"+ and athletic. A Bobby Taylor type who can also play safety. Good selection. Could be nickel back this season if Eagles don't sign a veteran. 4th round (1): JR Reed, S, South Florida -Excellent player. Hard hitter, great speed. Will probably be the kick returner in 2004. Not a position of need, however. 4th round (2): Trey Darilek, OL, UTEP -Didn't know much about him. Appears to be a good, underrated player. A good selection at this point. 5th round: Thomas Tapeh, FB/RB, Minnesota -Possibly the top-ranked FB prospect also can carry the ball and catch it out of the backfield. A solid pick in the fifth round. Will be a good goal-line and short yardage back who will also play special teams. 6th round (1): Andrew Hall, QB, Delaware -Eagles needed a third QB, and he seems like a decent one. Local college kid who is compared to Rich Gannon (another former Delaware QB). 6th round (2): Dexter Wynn, CB, Colorado State -Smallish CB who might be a punt returner and backup CB if he makes the team. 7th round (1): Adrien Clarke, OG, Ohio State -Rated much higher than 7th round. Great value pick at this point. 7th round (2): Bruce Perry, RB, Maryland -Small, fast RB who was productive in college. Philly kid who will probably just be a training camp body. 7th round (3): Dominic Furio, C, UNLV -Don't know much about him. Probably a project player for the practice squad. All-in-all, the Eagles seemed to stick to their plan of addressing future needs instead of current holes. The offensive line is aging a bit and the team won't want to pay older players the money that they've earned the right to receive. I was really hoping they'd grab a DT and WR prospect since the draft was so deep with both, however, there is a method to Reid's madness...

Blake would probably be the guy if there is a long-term need for a backup QB, but Blake has never played in a WCO, has he? |
| Not too sure about West Coast Offense, but as you said, I think he is better long term back up than Detmer. I honestly don't think he would of signed unless he had a very good shot of getting #2. Honestly I am not sure why the Ravens didn't sign him.(again)

Uh-oh... Eagles | Owens Not Happy With Dress Code - from www.KFFL.com Wed, 9 Jun 2004 11:38:11 -0700 Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports Philadelphia Eagles WR Terrell Owens still wants to wear only tights at practice, according to the Sporting News. Owens showed up just in tights at his first official workout with the Eagles last month and was told by the equipment manager and assistant coaches that head coach Andy Reid has a dress code that required shorts over the tights. "My biggest adjustment isn't the new team or the plays, but wearing shorts over my tights," he said. "What does that have to do with how I practice? I understand having structure, and I guess that is him making a statement. I don't have any problem with that, but it's a big adjustment."
