Giants sign Eagles LB Carlos Emmons. It's at least a start to signinng several players they are looking at... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nyg This is from bigblueinteractive.com Today's Free Agent Update – Coleman, Haggans, and Nesbit Signed?: BigBlueInteractive.com is hearing from a few sources that tentative deals may have been finalized between the Giants and unrestricted free agents DT Rod Coleman (Raiders) and LB Clark Haggans (Steelers). However, we have not received any definitive confirmation and thus the signing of these two remains speculative at this point. The Star-Ledger reports that a source "close to the situation" said Coleman's visit to the Giants went well and that Coleman is very interested in the Giants. Publicly, Coleman is said to be committed to visiting the Falcons before making any decision. The agent for Haggans also said his visit went extremely well. "He enjoyed meeting with everyone out there and liked the way they would theoretically use him," said Haggan's agent. Publicly, Haggans is said to be visiting the Lions next before making any decision. ESPN is reporting that Haggans is receiving serious interest from the Giants, Lions, and Steelers and that his value has soared into the $2 million per year range. ESPN says Haggans will make his decision today. A Jacksonville radio station and Jacksonville.com are reporting that the Giants have signed unrestricted free agent OG/OC Jamar Nesbit (Jaguars). The 28-year old Nesbit is 6-4 and 330lbs. He was a primary back-up for the Jaguars in 2003. From 1999-2002, Nesbit played for the Panthers, where he started. Meanwhile, unrestricted free agent SLB Carlos Emmons (Eagles) visited the Giants yesterday and The Ledger speculates that Emmons is one of the Giants' most wanted free agent targets. Emmons will undergo a physical from the Giants today (Emmons broke his left fibula in December). The Eagles, Saints, and Steelers are also pursuing Emmons. Unrestricted free agents DT Fred Robbins (Vikings), DT Steve Martin (Texans), OG Mike Goff (Bengals), and CB William Bartee (Chiefs) also arrived at Giants Stadium yesterday. Robbins' agent says the level of mutual interest between Robbins and the Giants is "high". According to Martin's agent, the Texans are making a late push to re-sign Martin by raising their offer to him. OC Rich Braham (Bengals) is scheduled to visit the Giants today. S Rich Coady (Rams) is scheduled to visit next week. The New York Post reports that while Braham is visiting, it is the 28-year old Goff who the Giants have higher on their wish list. The Post says the Giants are interested in converting Goff, who played right guard with the Bengals, into a center. There was one internet report that said the Giants may also be interested in DE Bert Berry (Broncos). The Denver press speculates that LB Ian Gold (Broncos) may also be of interest to the Giants.

Any time, Crash. Thanks for the thanks! Lookin' forward to your info!!!! And here's what All Sorts Sports says about the Giants/Manning thing: "8 April, 2004 Giants (NJ.com) The Giants' intentions in the April 24 draft might no longer be much of a secret. They hold the fourth overall pick and general manager Ernie Accorsi called Chargers general manager A.J. Smith two days ago to ask the cost of trading up to the No. 1 spot. Can you say "Eli Manning?" "I've also spoken to another club ahead of us and one behind us," Accorsi said last night. "We're exploring our options. I've said that we'd explore our options from the beginning, from moving up to moving down to staying where we are." The Giants aren't about to divulge any draft-room secrets. Yet the latest round of speculation was actually supplied by Smith, who told the Associated Press yesterday: "(The Giants) would like to move from four to one. Anything we discuss (beyond that) is football business between the two of us." Of course, just the public acknowledgment of their trade discussion by Smith and Accorsi may be proof in itself that nothing is on the front-burner. But should they make a deal, there is little doubt that Manning is the Giants' man. They love Iowa left tackle Robert Gallery, too, but not No. 1 overall. Meanwhile, the Giants continued to be active in free agency yesterday, adding a big run-stuffer -- emphasis on "big" -- in signing defensive tackle Norman Hand to a two-year, $2-million contract." Wait-and-see time of the year.....

This thing is a lot of fun for me. Here's what All Sorts Sports said today: "14 April, 2004 Chargers (The Union-Tribune) Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith has said repeatedly that he won't seriously consider trade offers for the top pick in this month's NFL draft until tomorrow at the earliest. Still, the pervasive opinion among many league observers is that Smith wants to unload the selection. The opinions are based not only on the Chargers having numerous holes to fill after an eighth consecutive non-winning season, but also on the fact that the team mass e-mailed writers and reporters last week after the New York Giants inquired about possibly dealing for the choice. It's almost unheard of for a club to post such information on its Web site, let alone do a mass mailing to reporters about it. A lot of people took that to mean that the Chargers are desperate to stir up interest in the pick, then unload it to the highest bidder. However, after further review, a trade seems less likely with each passing day. The reason is Iowa offensive tackle Robert Gallery. Two well-placed sources said recently that there is no chance of Gallery slipping past the second pick, where he would be taken by the Oakland Raiders or a team that trades with them, possibly Cleveland or Washington. If true, that almost forces the Chargers to stay at No. 1. The Chargers' two biggest needs are offensive tackle and quarterback, in that order. If Gallery goes second overall as expected, trading down could cost the Chargers not only the top-rated offensive linemen, but also top-rated quarterback Eli Manning of Mississippi, who is projected to go first overall. At this point, things are playing out in such a fashion that they likely will stay put and take Manning."

Whether it will lead to anything is hard to say. The Giants are one of the teams I've had ongoing conversations with regarding Kurt's situation. They just drafted a quarterback who is going to be their franchise quarterback, there is no question about that. Kurt understands that. He understands you're not going to find the perfect situation in May or June." IMHO - They need a guy to cover the first half of the season, at least, until Eli is ready. At this point, it's probably Kurt's best hope to start. |
| Unbelievable waste of money if the Giants sign him. He is garbage. He can't throw the ball anymore. The games he played last year were embarrasing!!!
