Ricky Williams retires from NFL!!!

Right off the GridIron Newsstand!! MAJOR NEWS!!!

News out of Miami is that Ricky Williams failed his second drug test since 2002.  He scored a 15 on the test.  The minimum   you can score but still be found guilty.  Since this is 'reportedly' his second violation, a four game suspension and $loss of 650,000+ in paychecks.  His first positive was rumored to happen right after he arrived in Miami in 2002.

Leading credence to the story is that Ricky visited NFL head quarters with his lawyer in April.  They are appealing the case, especially since Williams was tested later in the day and scored a 14 on the test.(which is passing)

Ricky is denying the story as reported:http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphins/content/sports/news/0514ricky.html

Wow that is major news, I'm glad that I don't have Ricky in a keeper league. It will be even more interesting to see all the worried FF Ricky owners and the dealins they might try . Thier is no way he is dumb enough to get caught again and face a suspension, right?

From the article
"If they tested all of us for weed, half of America would be out of work. I know the guy who's helping us out is good because he used to do the drug stuff for the NFL. I know the attorney. He's a good friend. Ricky should come out of this all right" a source close to Williams said.

I guess because this guy thinks that everyone else is smoking weed it is ok for Ricky to break the law. I guess his mom never asked him "If all your friends jumped off a cliff, would you?"

I think it is his third violation which would result in a suspension.

From the article referenced above,
Quote:
This was Williams' second violation since he has been with the Dolphins, sources close to the case said. Williams, 26, is appealing the fine that the league imposed when a drug test he took on Dec. 10, 2003, turned up positive for marijuana. Another failed test would result in a four-game suspension.

This is stated more clearly here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1802049

Quote:
Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams faces a $650,000 fine following his second violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, the Palm Beach Post reported Friday.

According to the report, Williams failed a drug test on Dec. 10, 2003. This follows a prior failed test soon after he arrived in Miami after being traded from the New Orleans Saints in May 2002.

Then, later Quote:
Per the NFL's substance abuse policy, a third violation for Williams would result in a four-game suspension.

I read about this yesterday myself. This really sucks for RW owners. DUMBASS! He has it all. The fine is minimal compared to all the $ he will lose by missing 4 games. Looks like the MIA passing game will be a focal point early in the season if all this pans out as it looks like.
MIA now needs a better backup RB. I hope they don't sign that LOSER HAMBRICK!!!. If that happens I will find it VERY hard to watch the games.
Maybe we will go out and get James Stewart for minimum wage. He would be a good fit if RW is indeed suspended.

You can relax Dolfan as bgsgfan said he will be suspended the four games if he test positive for a third time. Right now he is facing the punishment of losing four games salary, but still participating in those games

As if we didn't know "dreadlocks Ricky" was a toker! Anyway, here's what's currently topping "The REAL Feed":

Williams is mum
USA Today: Sports (18.05.2004 12:05)
DAVIE, Fla. - Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams refused to discuss Tuesday whether he violated the NFL's substance-abuse policy a second time by using marijuana. "No one in the NFL can talk a...

It should read, "Williams mum... Can't get over the giggles"!

Here are further reports from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

As per soso's previous post, here's the bead on "The REAL Feed":

Report: Dolphins' RB Williams retires
The Sports Network: NFL (25.07.2004 01:08)

Report: Ricky Williams to Quit Dolphins
AP Sports (25.07.2004 00:58)
Ricky Williams has told the Miami Dolphins that he's retiring after just five years in the NFL, The Miami Herald reported on its Web site Sunday.

Here's the LOCAL report from The Miami Herald that's being cited:

Now the challenge for the Dolphins is to find a replacement. My choices are:

1, Anthony Thomas
2. Troy Hambrick
3. James Stewart
4. Stacey Mack

Anyone think Travis Minor can step in?

Maybe, but I don't think he will get the chance to, BW.  If he somehow does, I think he could surprise,... but that team is going to be pretty bad, so as bad teams go so does the running game, i.e. .

...

By the way, have any of you noticed HOW MANY reports there are on "The REAL Feed" regarding all this??? Check it out:

I hate to kick a guy when they're down, but the Vikes are 3 deep at RB and I hear opportunity knocking!

How about Michael Bennett for Adewale Ogunleye!?

Ya know...on second thought, scratch that kick a guy comment.   I'm going with Don Henley.   "kick 'em when they're up...kick'em when they're down".

GO VIKES!

Here's an interesting rumor I picked up somewhere...

The Colts trade Edgerrin James to the Fins.  James is already on record saying he'd love to play in Miami.  It's his hometown and he even trains there instead of the Colts practice facility.

James will be a free agent following the season and the Colts will have some trouble resigning him to a big contract in lieu of all the money they spent on their QB.  The Colts have capable runners in Rhodes (who gained 1000 yards when James was out), Ricky Williams (the irony), and James Mungro.

So, the Colts could trade Edge now and get something in return or they could watch him leave at the end of the season and sign in Miami anyway.

Here's another name to consider, though it certainly lacks the drama and excitement of the other rumors flying rampant right now...

Robert Edwards

He was a late release by the Fins in 2003.  He is healthy again.  I remember Takeo Spikes saying he had been working out with Edwards in the off-season and hoped that someone would give the guy a shot (he said this as a guest during the NFL Draft weekend).

Just something else to think about...

OK.  Wasn't exactly sure where to put this link.  But in the dregs of the off-season and considering the focus of this link (keep watching and you'll see why I put it here), I put it here.

Williams will face a 4-game suspension if he returns to the NFL...

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/football/9272162.htm

This kind of blows my theory that he retired in order to avoid failing a drug test, only to unretire once his system was cleaned out...  He already failed it and made no attempts not to fail it.
