by Matt McElligott Time & Date of this Update (PST): 17:45 on Fri Dec 30 2005 News: Week 17 preview Fantasy Football Slant: The Bills, who are now 5-10, are coming off of a surprising 37-27 victory over the Cincinatti Bengals and are scheduled to face the New York Jets this week. The Jets who are now 3-12, are coming off of a 31-21 defeat at the hands of the New England Patriots. QB - Kelly Holcomb is slated to be the starter to finish off the Bills 2005 campaign. Holcomb put up very good fantasy numbers against the Bengals defense last week, including his first 300 yard game of the year. Look for Holcomb to have another decent game but not quite a 300 yard passing day. The Jets Defense is second in the league against the pass (partially because teams usually get up quick on them and then run the clock out for the rest of the game), but nevertheless Holcomb should still put up decent numbers because the Bills do not quite have a high powered offense to get up quick on the Jets. This week Holcomb is a high # 2 QB. RB - Despite the Bills posting 37 points last week Willis McGahee had another weak showing last week. McGahee posted only 66 yards on 23 carries last week and was held scoreless. Look for McGahee to improve on this performance this week against a Jets defense who is 27th in the league against the rush. The Bills should also be in the position to be running the clock out in this game too so McGahee should get a good amount of touches. As tough as it may be for you McGahee owners considering his dismal performance this year, I would still suggest starting McGahee this week and he is a mid #1 RB in my book this week. WR - Lee Evans and Eric Moulds are both coming off of good weeks last week and are showing significant improvement in their numbers when Holcomb is the Bills starting QB. Last week Evans caught 5 balls for 107 with a touchdown and Moulds caught 10 for 99. It is still evident that Moulds is Holcombs go to guy and this week he is a mid #2 receiver, but Evans should still put up decent numbers also and is a high #3. TE - You should not be even looking at this for consultation if you have a Buffalo Tight End. None of them are Fantasy threats. Drop them, as soon as you can. K - The Bills offense may not get stalled out as much as in other weeks so look for Lindells production when it comes to field goal attempts to go down, however he is likely to get more extra point conversions than usual. This week he is a low #1. Defense - Last week Terrence McGee finally blew up and returned his first kick of the year and he could do it again this week. The Bills defense should actually be a pretty decent play this week seeing as that they are facing the Jets #3 QB and #2 runningback according to their depth charts. Brooks Bollinger is not quite the most mobile Quarterback and should get sacked a couple times and will likely get flustered and throw 2-3 interceptions also. Cedric Houston has yet to prove anything but if there was one team to prove it against it would be the Bills this week. This week the Bills defense is a high #2 play. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 14:45 on Fri Dec 23 2005 News: Week 16 preview Fantasy Football Slant: Well, it is official, the Bills suck. To extend their 5 game losing streak the Bills lost consecutive home games to the Patriots (35-7) in week 14 and the Broncos (28-17) in week 15. This week the Bills hit the road to face the Cincinatti Bengals, and do not look for the results of this game to spread Christmas cheer in Buffalo. The Bills have not won a game on the road all year and the Bengals are 11-3. Seeing these stats one could only assume that this will be an absolute blowout. However, the Bengals have already clinched their division and the Colts have clinched homefield advantage, this means that they may bench their starters after the first half or even before that. QB - If he manages to go unscathed through the first half, I think Kelly Holcomb will actually have a decent game. The Bengals defense is tops in the league in turnovers and if Holcomb can stay calm and minimize this he should be okay. Odds are the Bengals starting unit will get a good lead in the first half and Holcomb will have to air it out against the Bengals second string in the second half. Even through a pretty ugly loss against the Broncos Holcomb did not look that bad. This week the Holcomb is a high #2. RB - Willis McGahee has had a very weak showing over the past two weeks, racking up only 39 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, yes, that is over TWO weeks. Needless to say McGahee has not been getting enough touches due to the Bills getting down quick. Unfortunately it looks like the same thing may happen this week. This week McGahee is the maker of his own destiny. The Bills will likely start off with the run in an effort to get McGahee some touches and the Bengals rush defense is actually average. Unfortunately the Bills will probably not be able to stay with the High powered Bengals offense and have to resort to the pass eventually. McGahee should still have an average week, and is a high #2 play for this week. WR - Since Kelly Holcomb is now the starting QB for the Bills Eric Moulds is the #1 fantasy threat at wide receiver for the Bills. Last week Moulds had a good game (9 catches for 110 yards) and I would look for him to put up numbers close to that this week. Lee Evans should get a decent amount of work also seeing as that Holcomb spreads the ball out to his receivers better than Losman. This week Moulds is a mid #2 receiver and Evans is a mid #3. TE - You should not be even looking at this for consultation if you have a Buffalo Tight End. None of them are Fantasy threats. Drop them, as soon as you can. K - The Bills offense may get stalled out a couple times in Cincinatti territory so look for Lindell to get 2-3 field goal attempts. This week he is a low #1. Defense - Terrence McGee is due, look for him to return a kick. Unfortunately, this will probably be the lone highlight for the Bills Special Teams and defensive units. The Bengals passing game will pick apart the Bills D and get a quick lead and then their rushing game will maintain the lead against the weak Bills rushing defense. Even if the Bengals sit their starters in the second half Chris Perry is still a solid back and will cause havoc for the Bills defense. This week the Bills defense is a low #2. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 10:45 on Sat Dec 4 2005 News: Week 13 preview Fantasy Football Slant: The Bills are on the road this week against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins are coming off of a big victory against the Oakland Raiders 33-21. The Bills are coming off of a 13-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers. QB - JP Losman is the starter yet again this week. The Dolphins have a mediocre defense that Losman should be able to put up some decent numbers against but expect an interception or two against the Dolphins secondary. Losman is a high #2 quarterback this week RB - Look for McGahee to get the ball a lot this week seeing as that the Dolphins are not likely to get up big and the Bills will likely be in control of the game this week. Last week McGahee had a lackluster performance and look for him to come out with a big week. This week McGahee is a mid #1 runningback. WR - Now that Losman is the man, look for Lee Evans to have a big game because Evans is Losmans favorite target. The Bills probably will not pass the ball too much this week and try to focus on the run and wear the Dolphins defense down, so do not look for many receptions from the Buffalo Receivers. This week Evans is a low #2 and Moulds is a mid #3. TE - Either Euhus or Campbell is not a viable option for your starting fantasy football lineup and until either one of them does something I would keep them out of your lineup. Campbell is a low #2 tight end, and Euhus is a #3. K - The Bills offense should spend a decent amount of time in Miami territory this week which could mean for a lot of opportunities for Rian Lindell. This week Lindell should have 2-3 field goal attempts and is a high #1 fantasy option. Defense - The Dolphins should not be too much of a threat to the Buffalo defense however the combination of Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown may cause problems for the Bills D-Line. The Bills should get a couple of sacks on Frerotte and also a pick or two. Terrence McGee still has not returned one all the way this year so he is due. Look for Roscoe Parrish to create some fireworks on punt returns also. This week the Bills D is a low #1 play. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 19:45 on Sat Nov 26 2005 News: Week 12 preview Fantasy Football Slant: The Bills are back at home this week in their matchup with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are coming off of a surprising overtime loss at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens and the Bills are coming off of a 48-10 whooping from the San Diego Chargers. QB - JP Losman was named the starter on Wednesday for the game against the Panthers but do not look for him to put up any good numbers. Last week Losman threw for only 168 yards with a touchdown and a pick and the Panthers are decent against the pass. This week Losman is a low #2 quarterback. RB - Willis McGahee is in for another tough week. The Panthers defense is 4th in the league against the rush and if the Bills get down early they may be forced to try to catch up with the passing game. Last week McGahee ran for 39 yards on only 10 carries and may be facing a similar situation this week. This week McGahee is a low #2 runningback. WR - There is no telling who the #1 receiver will be each week in Buffalo, not that it matters seeing as that Moulds and Evans have really only had one good week apiece this year. Odds are Evans will get more looks so he is a high #3 receiver, whereas Moulds is a low #3. TE - Mark Campbell is questionable this week and his replacement will be Tim Euhus. Do not look for Euhus to put up any big numbers because he will likely be forced to stay in on blocking assignments to pick up blitzing Carolina defenders. This week Campbell should be benched and Euhus is a #3 tight end. K - The Bills offense should have trouble finishing if they make it to the red zone against the Panthers defense. This week Lindell will probably get 2 field goal attempts and an extra point attempt which should make Lindell a low #1 kicker. Defense - The Bills defense may be spending a lot of time on the field against the Carolina Panthers and may have trouble with the Carolina offense. The Panthers running game is solid with Stephen Davis and Deshaun Foster and The Panthers have one of the best receivers in the league in Steve Smith but I would not look for the Panthers to put up 30+ points. Do not look for too many turnovers for the Bills defense and the Panthers offensive line will likely only allow 2-3 sacks. This week the Bills are a high #2 defense. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 09:45 on Sun Nov 20 2005 News: Week 11 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This week the Bills hit the road and travel to San Diego to face the Chargers. The Bills are coming off of an impressive 14-3 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chargers are coming off of a close 31-26 win over the New York Jets. QB - The big news in the Buffalo this week is that JP Losman is making his return to the starting lineup this week. Losman looked good last week, throwing for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns after Kelly Holcomb was knocked out of the game with a concussion. Even though he looked good last week I would still not jump out there and pick up and start Losman. The Chiefs defense was depleted due to injuries and Losman still has not proven himself. Even though the Chargers are weak against the pass (30th in the league) Losman is still a low #2 this week. RB - Willis McGahee has his work cut out for him this week. He will have the leagues #1 rush defense to compete against this week and on top of that the Chargers will be blitzing and stacking up against the run unless Losman can make them pay for that, which is a big question mark right now. McGahee is also coming off one of his weaker performances of the year after rushing for only 66 yards on 20 carries. This week McGahee is a low #1. WR - Now that Losman is starting the #1 man in Buffalo has flip-flopped. It is apparent that Losman has a better rapport with Lee Evans and he should see more balls this week than Eric Moulds. Unfortunately, neither will be likely to put up big numbers. Evans had a decent week last week, catching 3 balls for 66 yards while Moulds caught 5 balls for only 26 yards. This week Evans is a mid #2 and Moulds is a high #3. TE - Mark Campbell actually got in the mix last week, catching 4 balls for 42 yards. I would not expect a repeat performance from him this week though. The Chargers know the way to get to Losman is by blitzing so Campbell will need to stay in on blocking assignments picking up the blitz. Due to this Campbell should remain on your bench (if he is still on your team) and is a low #2 this week. K - The Bills offense should still have trouble finishing so Rian Lindell should get some FG attempts. This week Lindell should get 2-3 FG attempts and 3 extra points. He is a mid #1 kicker for this week. Defense - Like last week the Bills defense should have a lot of trouble with the Chargers this week. The Chargers have a strong rushing game, while the Bills biggest weakness is their rush defense. The Chargers also have a solid passing game, with their tight end being their best target. Brees is usually good at protecting the ball so we cannot expect another 3 interception performance from the Bills D. Terrence McGee and Roscoe Parrish are always big threats to return a kick, but it isn't something you can bank on. Overall, the Bills defense is a mid #2 this week. PLEASE do NOT post to this thread! This thread is only to be appended to by Matt McElligott.

Time & Date of this Update (PST): 02:20 on Sun Nov 13 2005 News: Week 10 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This week the Bills return back home for the first time in a month to host the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills are fresh off of a bye week and the Chiefs care coming off of an exciting last second win against the Oakland Raiders. QB - Kelly Holcomb should have a good week this week. The Chiefs pass defense is 31st in the league and they are injured all throughout their secondary. The Bills have also had the chance to prep for the Chiefs defensive schemes for the last two weeks so they should be prepared for what the Chiefs are going to throw at them. Holcomb seems to improve every week and I would not expect a slow down this week. This week Holcomb is a low #2 QB. RB - The Chiefs rushing defesne is somehwat solid and something that Willis McGahee may have some trouble with. In McGahee's last game he rushed for 136 yards on 31 carries against the Patriots but I would not expect him to get as many carries this week. Odds are the Bills may get down quickly and need to pass to catch up. This week McGahee is still a low #1 running back, though. WR - After the game in New England it is easy to see that Eric Moulds is Kelly Holcomb's go to guy. Moulds caught 9 balls for 134 yards and a touchdown, while Lee Evans only caught 1 ball for 14 yards. This week the Bills will likely be passing a lot and probably be successful in doing it. This week Moulds is a low #1 receiver and Evans is a low #3. TE - Mark Campbell hasn't done much this year and probably will stay on this pace. If you have Campbell you should drop him. This week expect another catch for around 10 yards out of him...the same he puts up every week. Campbell is a low #2 this week. K - The Bills offense may not have too much trouble in the red zone against the Chiefs defense which may account for less field goal attempts but more extra point attempts for Rian Lindell. This week I would say that Lindell will have 2 field goal attempts and thus Lindell is a mid #1 kicker this week. Defense - The Bills defense is going to have a lot of trouble with the Chiefs this week. The Chiefs have a strong rushing game, while the Bills biggest weakness is their rush defense. The Chiefs also have a solid passing game, with their tight end being their best target. The fact that a backup linebacker (Angelo Crowell) will be covering Tony Gonzalez is bad news for the Bills. Terrence McGee and Roscoe Parrish are always big threats to return a kick, but it isn't something you can bank on. Overall, the Bills defense is a mid #2 this week. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 08:10 on Sun Oct 30 2005 News: Week 8 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This week the Bills stay on the road and play a Sunday night game at the New England Patriots. The Patriots are atop the AFC East at 3-3 and are a half a game up on the Bills who are 3-4. QB-Although the Patriots have notoriously had a good defense, they are 24th in the league against the pass, which could mean a good day for Kelly Holcomb. Last week Holcomb did not put up good numbers against a weak Oakland defense so there is some question about how he will perform this week. This week Holcomb is a mid #2 QB. RB- Last week Willis McGahee was shut down by the Raiders, only putting up 50 yards on 16 carries, while also being held out of the endzone. The Patriots Defense is 24th in the league against the rush but are also welcoming back star linebacker, Tedy Bruschi, who could give this defense the boost they need. Overall this week McGahee is a low #1 RB. WR-Last week Moulds and Evans were relatively shut down, except for the fact that Evans found his way into the endzone for his first score of the year. This week the pair should have a better performance against a hobbling New England secondary. Overall, Eric Moulds is a low #2 receiver this week and Lee Evans is a high #3. TE-Campbell still has not gotten into the endzone this year and only gets 2-3 catches per game. He is still the Bills #1 tight end but it does not look like he gets enough looks to put up any big numbers. Consider dropping him but if there is nobody out there who can replace him I would wait around to see how he pans out because Holcomb is still making adjustments to get comfortable with the Bills receivers. This week Campbell should be on your bench and is a low #2 tight end. Kicker-2-3 field goal attempts per game is what you should look for out of Rian Lindell for the rest of the season unless the Bills offense really starts clicking. This week I would be leaning more towards 2 field goal attempts for Lindell because the Bills offense should be spending a good amount of time in Raiders territory. This week Lindell is a low#1. Defense-The Patriots are a team that has repeatedly run over the Bills defense, which is a big worry for the Bills this season seeing as that rush defense is their biggest weakness. Do not look for Tom Brady to make many mistakes either. The way things look, its gonna be a long day for the Bills D and the Pats could put up a lot of points against the Bills. This week the Bills are a low #2 defense. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 13:10 on Fri Oct 21 2005 News: Week 7 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This week the Bills venture off to Oakland to take on the Raiders. The Bills are in first place in the AFC East with a 3-3 record and are coming off of an impressive 27-17 win over the New York Jets. The Raiders are 1-4 and are coming off of a 27-14 loss at the hands of the San Diego Chargers. QB-Kelly Holcomb has performed pretty well in his first two starts and he could be primed for a big day against a weak Oakland secondary.. Holcomb has had a good completion percentage in both of his games and has thrown for around 200 yards in each game all while making few mistakes. He could be a good pickup and may be a good start if your #1 QB is injured or on bye. This week Holcomb is a high #2 QB. RB-Willis McGahee is performing like the Bills have expected him to and he is in for another big week. Last week McGahee had 29 rushes for 143 yards and a touchdown and also added 3 receptions for 24 yards. The Raiders are 31st in the league in defense which means it could be a huge week for Willis. The Bills defense may be able to shut down the Oakland offense as well, which means McGahee could get 30+ carries if the Bills jump out to an early lead. This week McGahee is a high #1. WR-The Bills big receivers (Lee Evans and Eric Moulds) are definitely reaping the benefits of the change at Quarterback. In the two games that Holcomb has been at Quarterback Evans and Moulds have combined for 20 receptions for 199 yards, compared to the 4 games with Losman where they combined for 18 receptions for 194 yards. The biggest beneficiary here has been Moulds who is evidently Holcombs go to guy, if he is available in your league pick him up. Against the Oakland Defense these receivers should have good days. This week Moulds is a low #2 and Evans is a mid #3. TE-Mark Campbells output has also increased as expected but he is still not putting up numbers worthy of a starting fantasy tight end. He could have a decent week and maybe put up a TD against the Raiders below average linebackers but odds are he will not put up any big numbers. This week Campbell is a mid #2. Kicker-2-3 field goal attempts per game is what you should look for out of Rian Lindell for the rest of the season unless the Bills offense really starts clicking. This week I would be leaning more towards 3 field goal attempts for Lindell because the Bills offense should be spending a good amount of time in Raiders territory. This week Lindell is a mid #1. Defense-Even though they are facing an explosive Raiders offense I believe the Bills Defense could be a good play. Randy Moss is doubtful for the game and when Kerry Collins was left without him last week his numbers suddenly fell back down to earth. Look for the Bills to get a couple of interceptions against Collins. The Raiders also have the 31st ranked rushing offense in the league which is the Bills weakness on defense. The matchups prove to be in favor of the Bills Defense and could keep the Raiders from scoring over 10 points. Do not forget about Terrence McGee on special teams either. Although he has not had a touchdown return yet, he is still leading the league in return average and is bound to break one sometime. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 14:10 on Fri Oct 14 2005 News: Week 6 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This week the Bills host the New York Jets at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Jets are coming off of a surprising 14-12 victory over the previously undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bills are coming off of a victory of their own against the Miami Dolphins, a contest in which the Bills won at a score of 20-14. Both teams are led by Quarterbacks who had their first start of the season last week and performed well, so there is no telling what the outcome of this game could be. QB-Last weeks performance by Kelly Holcomb was a breath of fresh air for the fans of Buffalo. Although he did not put up monster numbers, he was consistent and made very few mistakes. If you are in a league with 3 roster spots at QB I would pick him up. I would not be surprised if he earned the starting spot for the rest of the season soon enough, but nothing is official yet. He has the potential to be a solid fill in and with his receiving options he could blow up in a couple games. This week I would keep Holcomb out of a starting lineup though, he is facing a Jets Defense that is 5th in the league against the pass and he is still not proven. This week Holcomb is a low #2. RB-Willis McGahee had a decent performance last week against a solid Miami rushing defense (86 yards and a td on 31 carries). Look for McGahee to blow up this week, the Jets are 26th in the league against the run and now that the Bills have a Quarterback that can keep defenses honest he should get some open holes. It is also quite possible that the Bills could get ahead by a couple of scores and in this case McGahee could be looking at another 30 carry game. This week McGahee is a must start and is a high #1. WR-Now that the Bills receivers have a Quarterback that can handle some pressure their value has suddenly rebounded. Odds are that Evans and Moulds may be available on the waiver wire in your league, if so I would recommend picking up one of them because they could start to produce some decent numbers again sometime soon. From what we saw last week it looked like Moulds may be Holcombs go to guy so if you get points for receptions he has some decent value, in yardage leagues I would still opt for Evans though. Look for Roscoe Parrish this week, he is questionable this week but he still may get in on a couple plays and could be just what the Bills offense needed. Overall Moulds and Evans are both high #3 receivers this week. TE-Just as I figured, once the Bills got a stable quarterback Mark Campbell would start getting some looks. Last week he was the target of at least 5 passes from Holcomb (at least two of them by the goal line). Look for Campbell to start putting up better numbers, still nothing to rave about but keep your eye on him. This week Campbell could get in the endzone but he is still a low #2 tight end. Kicker-Do not look for much of a change when it comes to Rian Lindell. The Bills offense should still have trouble finishing so he should get some FG attempts. This week Lindell should get 2-3 FG attempts and 3 extra points. He is a mid #1 kicker for this week. Defense-The Bills defense is a decent play for this week. Vinny Testeverde will not be able to scramble much so look for the Bills to get some sacks on him. He is also still rusty and old and could make some mistakes and throw some interceptions. Curtis Martin has potential to have a big day on the Bills weak rush defense but he is somewhat hobbled due to a knee injury and he has yet to break 75 rushing yards in a game this season. Overall, even though the Bills rushing defense looks terrible, I would still say it is going to be a tough day for the Jets offense. This week the Bills D is a low #1. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 16:40 on Thu Oct 06 2005 News: Week 5 preview Fantasy Football Slant: In week 5 the Bills are set to face their division rivals, the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins lead the division at 2-1 and the Bills are in the back of the pack at 1-3. The Bills are coming off of yet another disappointing loss, this time to the New Orleans Saints at a score of 19-7. The Dolphins should be well rested and prepared for the Bills after their bye week QB-The big development in Buffalo this week has been that Kelly Holcomb has been officially named the starter for this week. If you have not already, drop JP Losman. I would not go jumping on Holcomb though, wait to see how he performs this week. Holcomb has not taken advantage of the opportunities that he was given to turn things around for the Bills passing game so far this season and this could happen again. On a more positive note, Holcomb has had success stepping in as the number 2 quarterback in Cleveland and the fact that he has been able to take reps with the starting offense in practice this week may be what he needs to perform on the field. Either way, Holcomb is a low #3 fantasy QB and Losman is a #4. RB-Last week Willis McGahee had another solid performance given the amount of touches that he had,. He rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. As odd as it sounds, this week the switch to the #2 QB should be good news for McGahee. This is because Holcomb is a more savvy veteran who can handle a blitz, unlike Losman. The Miami defense will be less likely to stack the line, giving McGahee more room to run. A couple things that McGahee has going against him this game is that the Dolphins D is third in the league against the rush and as usual, if the Bills get down quick they may have to play catch-up with the passing game. This week I would expect McGahee to perform like a low #1 fantasy RB. WR-The change at QB should directly effect the performance of the Buffalo wideouts in a positive way. Holcomb will not get as flustered as Losman and should be able to find the open receivers throughout the game. The Miami secondary also has some weaknesses so the receivers could break one deep and manage to find some holes. Although the change should be beneficial, there is still no telling how much of an actual improvement there will be. For this reason I would leave Lee Evans as a mid #3 receiver and Eric Moulds as a low #4 for now, but keep your eye on them to see how they benefit from the QB change. TE-Mark Campbell has put up horrible numbers so far this season, 3 catches for 18 yards. If you have not dropped him yet, try to wait one more week and see what happens. Teams have been attacking the Bills with blitzing, therefore Campbell has had to stay in most of the time for blocking assignments. Wait to see how Holcomb handles the blitz and how often Campbell gets to run routes. Needless to say Campbell should be on your bench no matter what. Kicker-Do not look for much of a change when it comes to Rian Lindell. The Bills offense should still have trouble finishing so he should get some FG attempts. He finally had his first missed field goal attempt last week, expect to see more of those scattered throughout his attempts, but he is still a good play. This week Lindell should get 2-3 FG attempts and 2 extra points. He is a mid #1 kicker for this week. Defense-The Bills defense has officially lost its status as one of the top defenses in the league. They are 31st in the league against the run. The bright side is that they are 1st against the pass. Do not let that statistic fool you though, much of the reason why they are 1st against the pass is because teams are constantly running the clock out. The good news for fantasy owners is that the Bills are still facing an unproven offense. Gus Frerotte and Ronnie Brown have flares of brilliance but can be stopped. The Bills D could still step up and shut down the Dolphins offense if the Bills offense can put together some drives to give the D a rest every so often. This week the Bills D is a low #1. PLEASE do NOT post to this thread! This thread is only to be appended to by Matt McElligott.

Time & Date of this Update (PST): 17:50 on Thu Sep 29 2005 News: Week 4 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This Sunday the Bills play the New Orleans Saints in their first game in San Antonio. The Saints are coming off of a 33-16 thumping from the Minnesota Vikings and the Bills are coming off of a poor 24-16 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. QB-Yet again, do not play JP Losman this week, and better yet, if he is on your team, think about dropping him. His season totals are extremely poor (38 for 79 with 358 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and he is not showing much improvement. With that said, Losman should perform better than last week but still will not put up numbers worthy of a starting fantasy QB. This week Losman is a mid #3. RB-Last week Willis McGahee had a solid performance, rushing for 140 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Fantasy owners of Willis McGahee should expect a similar performance against an average Saints defense that allowed a 100 yard rushing game from Mewelde Moore last week. This week I would expect McGahee to perform like a high number 1 fantasy runningback. WR-This week should be a better week from Buffalo receivers. The Saints defense should not pose any big threats to the Buffalo offense. Although Losman is not expected to perform great in this game, Evans and Moulds should not have too much trouble getting open so Losman should be able to hit them more often. The lack of pressure from an average d-line and weak cornerbacks could result in a long touchdown from Evans this week. This week Evans should be a low #3 and Moulds should be a high #3. TE-Mark Campbell has been no threat to defenses so far this season, but things could change this week, now that teams are overlooking him. A lack of pressure could allow him to release from blocking and catch a couple balls as a safety option and possibly even sneak in a touchdown. Despite the potential, Campbell is still a mid #2 TE. Kicker-Rian Lindell has been a top fantasy kicker for the season and he may perform like that this week too. The Bills offense is likely to sputter a couple times in New Orleans territory so look for Lindell to get 2 or 3 chances against the Saints. Remarkably Lindell has not yet missed a field goal and until he does, and until the offense shows that they can finish in the red zone I would put Lindell as a mid #1. Defense-The Bills defense took a huge hit last week when Takeo Spikes was sidelined for the season with an Achilles tendon tear. Without their defensive leader the Bills defense looked average last week, especially against the Falcons running game. Look for a big game from Deuce McAllister this week and Aaron Brooks will have the potential to perform well if the Bills start stacking up against the run. Brooks has the tendency to throw a couple picks and the Bills should get 2 or 3 sacks on him, but overall the Bills defense is a little above average until they show that they can stop the run. This week I would rank them as a High #2. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 02:50 on Wed Sep 22 2005 News: Week 3 preview Fantasy Football Slant: This week the Bills come back home to host a hobbling Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons. The Bills are looking to improve on an ugly performance in Tampa in Week 2 where they posted only 147 yards of total offense and allowed 191 yards on the ground. QB-Do not play JP Losman this week. He could not hit an out route to save his last week and had a performance riddled with rookie mistakes such as stepping out of his own endzone. Look for Atlanta to bring the heat like Tampa Bay did last week until Losman shows that he can handle the pressure. Kelly Holcomb saw playing time last week and although he did not perform well either, look for him to get more if JP does not improve. RB-Last week Willis McGahee rushed for only 34 yards on 13 carries. The good thing about this is that we cannot really expect much worse of a performance from him this week. I expect Mularkey to stick to his game plan this week and pound the ball on a Falcons Defense who gave up 161 yards of rushing last week to Seattle. The problem here is that due to Losmans poor performance Tampa was putting up to 9 people in the box to stop the run, so until Losman forces defenses to stay honest I have a feeling McGahees number will suffer. No matter what Willis is still a low number 1 for this week. WR-Once again, I would not expect a big week from any of the Buffalo receivers. The combination of Losmans futility and DeAngelo Halls one on one coverage skills does not provide for any big days for Moulds or Evans. That being said I would not be surprised if Lee Evans were to catch a bomb this week. I have a feeling Losman will be trying to throw downfield more this Sunday in order to keep the defense spread out. Unfortunately these are things we cannot rely on and that is why Evans is a mid #3 this week and Moulds is a low #3/high #4. TE-Mark Campbell was non-existent last week and I would not expect much of a difference this week. Odds are they will have to keep him in to block to pick up blitzes so he will not have much opportunity to catch the ball other than dump-offs. I would put Campbell and any other Bills tight end on your bench this week, but for those who must know, he is low #2 Kicker-Rian Lindells situation doesn not change much from last week. The Bills are playing another team with a solid defense and the Bills offense is still likely to stall out in the opponents territory. This should give Lindell 2 or 3 chances to convert a field goal. I would say that he is a low #1 this week. Defense-The Bills defense may have some trouble with the Falcons rushing attack. Last week Cadillac Williams exposed them and showed that they can be run on but I do not think Warrick Dunn has the ability to break tackles like Williams does and TJ Duckett is too slow to hit the hole to do much against the Bills D-Line. It looks like Michael Vick is going to get the start here so look for a couple sacks against the usually mobile quarterback. Due to the fact that Vicks scrambling abilities are affected by the injury he may be forced to throw up balls that he normally would not which could turn into some interceptions. Overall the Bills D should rebound from last week and is a mid #1 for this week. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 14:50 on Wed Sep 14 2005 News: Week 2 preview Fantasy Football Slant:: After a stellar 22-7 week 1 victory over the Houston Texans the Bills hit the road and make a visit to Tampa to face the Buccaneers in week 2. This matchup will prove to be a good test for the Bills offense and defense. QB- The speedy Buccaneers Defense should put a lot of pressure on JP Losman and force him to make quick decisions, which he showed he had trouble with last week. Unless you are really desperate, Losman still has a lot to prove before he can make his way into a starting fantasy lineup. RB- Last week McGahee racked up a very quiet 117 yards on the ground and this game has the potential to be a low scoring defensive struggle. If this is the case, the Bills will be able to stick to their game plan of pounding the ball with McGahee so expect to see him touching the ball a lot and possibly getting into the endzone once or twice. Do not be too afraid of the Tampa run defense from their shut down performance against Minnesota last week. Although they are solid, the Bills rushing attack is better and will perform better than Minnesota. WR- Do not look for big days for the Bills receivers this week. Tampa Bay shut down one of the leagues better passing attacks in Minnesota last week and the Bills will probably try to run the ball a lot. Also, I do not foresee the Bucs scoring enough points on the Bills defense to force the Bills to play catch-up and resort to the passing game. Evans should be a low #2 receiver this week and Moulds should be a high #3. TE- Mark Campbell should be a low #2 this week. He can provide some value with a possible touchdown catch, but I do not foresee the Bills spending much time in the Tampa red zone. Campbell is not usually a big yardage gainer and there should be no exception this week because of the Buccaneers speedy linebacking corps. Kicker- Do not expect another 5 field goal performance from Rian Lindell this week. With that said, a sporadic Buffalo offense may stall out a couple times in Tampa territory and Lindell could have 2 or 3 chances to convert a field goal, whether or not he will actually convert them is a question mark. For this week I would say he is a low #1. Defense- The Tampa offense does not prove to be much of a threat to the Bills Defense. Cadillac Williams put up good numbers last week, however half of his yards came on one carry, other than that carry Williams was averaging 3 yards per carry. Brian Griese is also a pocket quarterback which could amount to a decent amount of sacks and pressure which could lead to interceptions. Overall I would not expect another shut down performance like last week but the Bills are a high #1 defense this week. Time & Date of this Update (PST): 02:16 on Sun Aug 28 2005 News: Bills Player Rankings... Fantasy Football Slant: This analysis is based on your average 10- to 12-team league and standard scoring, with touchdowns and yardage being evenly weighted. The "Projected Fantasy Role" is where you should plan on lining that player up on your fantasy team from week to week. The Bills are a team loaded with young talent and athleticism however the performance of each player depends on the success of first year starting QB, JP Losman...|
- Position- - | - Player- - | Projected Fantasy Role - | - Comments - | | QB | JP Losman | Low #3 | Has potential to put up some decent numbers and running ability is always a plus, however look for the Bills offense to be run-oriented. | | RB | Willis McGahee | Low #1 | There is a lot of hype around McGahee this year after last years performance and he will be touching the ball a lot, but if Losman does not prove to be a threat, defenses may be able to focus on shutting down McGahee. | | RB | ReShard Lee | Low #4 | McGahee will be a three down back so don't look for Lee to get into the game except for when McGahee needs a quick breather. | | RB | Shaud Williams | #5 | Little sparkplug will only see time if injuries to Lee or McGahee occurs. | | WR | Lee Evans | Low #1 | Second year man has the hands and speed to become the Bills number one receiver and proved in his rookie season that he can perform at the NFL level and has no trouble finding the endzone. | | WR | Eric Moulds | Low #2 | The combination of a run-oriented offense and the emergence of Lee Evans will hurt Moulds' numbers but he should still put up some decent numbers. | | WR | Roscoe Parrish | Low #5 | Before his wrist injury this rookie had Buffalo reeling, should be back by week 4 and should get some receptions and get in the endzone a couple of times. | | WR | Josh Reed | #7 | If you really feel you must draft 7 receivers Reed could step in for an injury and possibly live up to his expectations from years ago, but don't count on it . | | TE | Mark Campbell | Low #2 | Always an endzone threat but erratic performance doesn't bode well for fantasy owners. | | TE | Tim Euhus | #3 | Similar threat as Mark Campbell however, Euhus is injury prone but if he remains healthy he could put up better numbers than Campbell . | | PK | Riann Lindell | Low #2 | Inaccurate from 40-plus yards out. | | D/ST | ---------- | High #1 | This defense is relatively unchanged from last year, therefore we can expect a similar stellar performance throughout the season. Do not be concerned about the loss of Pat Williams on this defense, the combination of Ron Edwards and Tim Anderson will compensate for his loss. As for the secondary, look for it to only get stronger as Terrence McGee and Nate Clements continue to elevate their game. On special teams we cannot expect to see a performance from Terrence McGee similar to last year, however look for him to still return a kick or two. Once Roscoe Parrish returns his speed and quickness should also provide for some fireworks on punt returns | Time & Date of this Update (PST): 12:25 on Tue Jun 21 2005 News: Red, white and Drew no more; A look at the Buffalo Bills' offseason moves Fantasy Football Slant: When looking at the Bills free agency moves this offseason it appears that they have lost more talent than they have gained. This has allowed opportunities for backups from last season to come in and show that they belong in the starting lineup. Changes in the Bills roster from free agency and the draft have effected the Bills Offense and Defense and it should be interesting to see how these develop through training camp and the preseason. Offense-The biggest headline of the offseason in Bills country is the release of QB Drew Bledsoe to free agency who was picked up by the Dallas Cowboys. With the loss of Bledsoe the Bills are now relying on 2nd year QB J.P. Losman to step in and fill the void. Losman, who the Bills traded up to draft in the 2004, had scouts chattering that he could be the next Brett Favre during draft day, however his performances in 2004 left some things to be desired. Despite all the doubts, I look for Losman to develop through training camp and preseason and turn out a solid performance in 2005. His ability to scramble is something that the Bills have not seen in years and he will use this ability to avoid sacks and give his receivers more time to get open. Just in case Losman turns out to be a bust this season, the Bills also acquired QB Kelly Holcomb from the Cleveland Browns. Holcomb is a veteran who has shown that he can handle being a backup quarterback yet can produce like a starter when called upon, an ideal pickup for the Bills in this particular situation. In an effort to replace the loss of Left Tackles, Jonas Jennings and Marcus Price, the Bills signed Mike Gandy from the Chicago Bears and Bennie Anderson from the Baltimore Ravens. Judging from the huge year that Jamal Lewis had running behind Anderson last year, it is likely that he will start at Left Tackle come opening day and prove to be a solid protector for Losman and McGahee. Defense- On the Defensive Side of the ball the Bills may have been weakened in depth but do not look for their performance to slip too much. They did lose Pat Williams to the Minnesota Vikings, however Ron Edwards should prove to be a solid replacement and the Bills shouldn't lose too much ground in this position. The Bills also took a bit of a hit in their safety positions with the loss of Pierson Prioleau to the Washington Redskins and Izell Reese to Dallas. Although they were good role players and substitutes, these two losses shouldn't hurt the Bills too much because they were only 3 and 4 on the Bills' Strong and Free Safety depth charts. Draft- The Buffalo Bills draft for 2005 will likely not have any fantasy impact for this year due to the lack of a first round pick. The Bills traded their 1st pick in this years draft to the Dallas Cowboys last year when trading up to choose JP Losman. With the Bills second round pick of this years draft they chose Roscoe Parrish, a WR out of Miami University. Parrish is the only one of out of the Bills 2005 draft class that could make some impact this year. He has the speed and hands to give Josh Reed a run for his money at the 3rd wide receiver position, however a question on Parrish is how he will learn to play in the NFL. Parrish received the lowest score out of the entire 2005 draft class on the Wonderlic test which caused concern for scouts, however reports so far this year have stated Parrish as learning the offense well and he is impressing teammates on his performance.
