trade ? - very important

my team is 2-3 in 12 tm league tied for 3rd in division 3 games back (scoring is longer td= more pts):

QB:  Favre, Eli Manning, McNair  (start 1)
RB:   Dunn, Jordan, Suggs (inj), Gore, Pearman (start 2)
WR:  TO, Michael Clayton (inj ?), Chambers, Edwards (inj),  Kevin Curtis, Lee Evans  (start 3)
K:    Bironas  (1)
IDP:   Freeney  (1)
DEF:  CHI, ATL  (1)

i also had McAllister & Davenport but we all know what happened to them last weekend.  its a 20 man roster league with short & long term IR, which means some teams technically have 20+ on their roster. so basically there is absolutely no one worth while on WW.
Dunn has bye in week 8 and i have no other starting RB besides Jordan for that week.  i have been offered the following trade:

i get:  Fred Taylor, Joe Horn (inj ?) & Roy Williams (inj)

i give up:  TO & Michael Clayton (inj ?)

team after trade:

RB:  Dunn, Jordan, Taylor, Pearman, Gore, Suggs
WR:  Horn, Roy Williams, Evans, Chambers, Curtis
QB:  K, IDP, DEF:  same

i like Taylor cause JAX has a nice schedule from week 8 thru 16 (excluding week 10), so i could exchange the 3 RB depending on the matchup.  plus if one got injured i would have a backup.  and Horn is a nice player but New Orleans sucks, so will Horn suffer?  also Roy could get better and Garcia could take over for Harrington boosting his potential.

i would be giving up the 3rd best (scoring wise) WR in the league, Clayton hasnt done anything between the injury and Galloway coming on strong but he could get better too.

would u suck it up with the RB's and team i have now or would u make the trade?????????

i would look it as a trade of to for taylor and horn. i am surprised williams and clayton are not on the waiver wire at this point.

the question should be would you start taylor over dunn or jordan?  i am not sure i would.

therefore my   says no trade.

good luck!

I still believe in Roy Williams and Joe Horn.  I don't in Michael Clayton, at least not for the remainder of '05.  I think he's got an ailment that is slowing him up.  Garcia may be coming back in Detroit sooner than later and that could spell good things for Williams.  I say DO IT!!!  If this is a deep keeper league, then DEFINITELY DO IT!!!

And, just as a side note in reponse to rick's post, in a league of this size, especially if it's a keeper, there is NO way Williams and Clayton should be available.

ok, now i'm 3-3.  this is a 12 team Redraft league.  the leader of my division is now 6-0, then 4-2, me at 3-3, last is 2-3-1.   i play the 2-3-1 team week 7 & 9.
my lineup is the same except i've added Travis Henry (back from suspension week 8) to my RB's.

his lineup:

QB: Bulger (inj), Brees
RB: Julius Jones, Thomas Jones, Droughns, Faulk, Tyson Thompson
WR: Holt, Burress, Caldwell, Wayne, Mark Clayton, Mike Williams
K: Graham
IDP: Leonard Little
DEF: INDY

i'm glad i didnt pull the trigger last week.  Horn & Williams were both out again and are still questionable this week.

the trade has been revised somewhat.

which order would u make these trades:

1) TO & Curtis  for  F.Taylor & Boldin
2) TO & E. Manning  for  F.Taylor & Boldin
3) TO & Curtis & E. Manning  for  F.Taylor & Boldin

i'm gonna try for #1 but not sure if he will accept.  He'll more likely take #2 or #3.  i dont mind giving up Curtis cause Bruce might be back this week which drops Curtis's playing time (plus Bulger is out a couple weeks)

if i do any of these trades i will then have 3 decent starting RB's with Taylor to cover Dunn's bye week 8.  plus if one gets hurt i will have a good backup.
even though TO is a stud Boldin has been really good this year and has a fairly easy schedule the rest of the season and ARI has no run game.  plus McNabb will be hurting all year & could effect TO's production.

i play the other 2-3-1 team in my division 2 of the next 3 weeks and he has Burress.  i was gonna play E.Manning because of this matchup but should i not worry about that since i have Favre anyway and just do the 2nd trade?

or do i not trade anyone and keep TO and use 1 good RB (Jordan) in wk 8 and play Henry (vs OAK) as my second RB and hope he sees the field, and maybe the goal line? and pray no more of my RB's get hurt.

sorry i write so much but want to give u as much info as possible so u know what i'm thinking about.

thoughts?  advice?  thanks.  KC

I like #1.  You give up a top flight player, but you'd almost surely lose week 8 with only 1 RB playing.  this gives you a chance to win.   Boldin is defn a step down from TO, but he's still a great #2, low #1 receiver.

I'd do #1, but ONLY #1.   I don't like the other 2 options, you're not getting enough back to give up both EManning and TO.  If this is a keeper, NO WAY do you give up Eli.

Good Luck!

I don't like the idea of giving up T.O.!!   You would be giving up the sure points every week you'd get from him for  points in week 8. It's a 1 week trade off for a whole season's worth of points! I have made this mistake   in the past..giving up the best player at a position just to win a single game....Cost me the whole season and I didn't even win the game that I initially made the trade for!!

it is NOT a keeper league.

i know TO is one of the best WR in the NFL but is Boldin that far down the list from him?

i understand TO has McNabb (still hurting though) and Boldin has McCown/Warner so the QB is a huge difference.  both teams have fairly easy schedules the rest of the season to me (Philly's might be a little easier)and ARI doesnt have much of a run game so they have to throw alot.

in my league Owens has scored 24 more pts than Boldin over the first 5 weeks (both had bye this wk).  both have 3 - 100+ yd games but TO has 4 TD's to Boldins 2 TD's.

would u do one of those trades giving up TO for F Taylor, Boldin and another WR?

he has Horn, Porter, R Smith, Stokely, Roy Williams and Crumpler (can be used as a WR).

i guess it does seem to u like i'm trying to trade just to have a chance to win one week but obviously i wouldnt consider doing it if i didnt think it could be good for the rest of the season.
i figured Taylor would be good for the bye week and than i would have 3 decent RB's to choose from, depending on matchups, the rest of the way (and in case of another injury - remember i've already lost McAllister & Davenport for the year and Suggs is still out).
and i was hoping Boldin could score as well or close to what TO will do.  i really wasnt thinking that Boldin was that bad of a drop from TO.
i dont know, maybe i'm not looking at it clearly, knowing i need a RB for week 8.

thanks for the advice.  any other thoughts are appreciated.  KC.  Go Eagles!!

It could work out for you...you never know!! I just had a bad experience doing a trade like that.   Look at it this way, T.O has averaged 24 points more than Boldin in the first 5 weeks...that's 5 points per week on average that you wont have. Boldin is the #1 guy in Arizona one week and then Fitzgerald the next!  You never know who is gonna get the end zone love there. In Philly..you know who gets the first looks in the passing game as well as in the end zone!! Boldin will have monster games from time to time but Owens is big every week. Wait till you get some more opinions on this before you jump or not.

C'mon Gridiron gurus...pony up the advice for my man!

I would not trade for Horn.  I am not confident that he will be able to play any time in the next three weeks.  His hamstring seems to be pretty messed up.  He is sitting on my squad right now and I am looking at him as a possible bonus several weeks down the road, but I am not counting on him to start any time soon.

Steer clear of Horn until he gets one week of injury free play under his belt.

Anyway, I tend to agree with MC.  I think cp is right to say that the only one that is even considerable is the first deal.  I just wouldn't go trading for Taylor until I was ABSOLUTELY sure Taylor was going to be back from his injury, for all (mid-season) intents and purposes, 100%.  Now, as you suggest in your follow-up post, if you could get Rod Smith or Roy Williams (or Horn if you are still a believer that he'll heal up and get back to playing good or even just decent ball before the season's out) thrown in to, then I'd do it.  BUT, will he?  Good luck!
