2003 Draft help????

I would like some help with my 2003 rookie draft. Any input would be appreciated. I am involved in a $$$ Keeper League with friends. We have 6 teams. Our league is a TD only league. Our rosters include 4 QB, 4 RB, 6 WR, 3 TE, 2 K, & 2 DEF. Our starting lineup consists of 2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 2 TE, 1 K, & 1 DEF. We also have a "farm system". We have a 7 rd Rookie Draft every year before preseason starts. We can hold players through their 3rd year in the NFL. After the 1st year, you can keep 5 players in your farm. After the 2nd year, you can hold 3 players in your farm. After the 3rd year, you move the player to your active roster or drop them. Following is my team: QB - M. Vick, J. Garcia, T. Green, D. Brees RB - P. Holmes, C. Portis, D. McAllister, J. Lewis WR - H. Ward, M. Booker, C. Chambers, R.Gardner, C. Johnson, J. Galloway TE - T. Heap, R. McMichael, E. Johnson K - M. Gramatica, O. Mare DEF - Pittsburgh, Tennessee Farm - D. Garrard (QB - Jac.), T.J. Duckett (RB - Atl.), A. Randle El (WR - Pit.), J. Gaffney (WR - Hou.), M. Walker (WR - traded ?) Now that you see my team, who would be some suggestions for this year's Rookie Draft? BTW - I won the league last year, so I pick #6 each rd. I have traded for a couple of other picks also (#2 pick 2nd rd, #5 pick 4th rd, & #3 pick 6th rd) Again, any input would be appreciated!!!!!!!

Also, I don't think that I am going to get a chance at Charles Rogers or Andre Johnson, that's why I am hoping somebody can help with some of the other WR after the top two. Thanks again |
| Taterhog-- I honestly think that you will get Andre Johnson at #6. I would be REALLY surprised if you did not. IF you don't I would NOT draft a wide receiver in the first round. There are too many players with upside to take a second tier WR in the first round. Leftwich, Boller, Palmer ,Grossman, Larry Johnson, Mcgahee should all be taken in round one. Now, who else should be out there for other rounds at WR?? Bryant Johnson -Cardinals- 1st round pick. Cards have a hodge podge of players at WR. He has a good as shot as any.(penn State) Tyrone Calico-- Titans -- 2nd rounder . fast, may beat out Bennett, but probably won't. Next year will probably be a starter.(midd tenn state.) Taylor Jacobs- Skins. 2nd round--#3 receiver but will be used alot os Spurriers offense. (Of course, a Florida player) Anquan Bolden- Cards-- 2nd round. See Bryant Johnson. (Florida State) Bethel Jonhnon- Pats-- 2nd round. I think he will be in the mix of hodge podge recievers up there. Maybe #3 reciever? Don't know much about him.(texas A&M) Nate Burleson--Vikings--3rd round--Vikes need all the help they can get at WR. Kevin Curtis--Rams--3rd round--Ram like him. Maybe fill Proehl's spot??? Billy McMullen--Eagles--3rd round--currently #4 receiver, but will challenge Freddie Mitchell for #3 position. With Pinkston and Thrash as receivers, he has chance to move up next year!!

| I don't know the people in your league, but I would imagine the top picks will be Charles Rogers, Andre Johnson, Willis McGahee, Byron Leftwich, Carson Palmer, and Larry Johnson. So, with the 6th pick, I'd take Rex Grossman because he'll be putitng up some numbers by the time you're ready to dump Trent Green and Jeff Garcia. In the second round, look for the best player available. I really like Artose Pinner, RB, Lions. He'll be invisible this year, but look for him to replace Stewart as early as next year. DD mentioned Nate Burleson, WR, Vikes. Watch this guy! He is the perfect complement to Randy Moss. Alexander and Bates have been unsuccessful as the #2 in Minnesota. Everyone has Calico on their radar (and deservedly so), but Kevin Curtis is another one who could slip a little. The little guy from Utah could be a solid #3 receiver for the Rams as early as this year. You have a nice TE corps, but keep your eyes on Dallas Clark, LJ Smith, and Mike Seidman. A QB that may fall a few rounds, but is definitely worth grabbing for the long haul, is Chris Simms. Never mind the fact that he struggled in college... he is going to be groomed for the position in 2-3 years and should succeed. Finally, just to whet everyone's appetites, I have a fantasy article in the works which discusses the rookie class of 2003. It could be released as early as this week. Watch for it.

I want to thank the one's that responded to this thread for their help. We held our Rookie Draft Saturday night and the following were my picks: Chris Simms, Ken Dorsey, Quintin Griffin, Andre Johnson, Kelly Washington, Anquan Boldin, Billy McMullen, Nate Burleson, George Wrightster. I ended up with the player that I really wanted (Andre Johnson-via trade) but I missed on the QB that I would have liked to have (Kyle Boller) by one pick. But I am really looking forward to this year in Fantasy Football. Good Luck to everyone in their leagues.

| Looks like you did pretty well for yourself there. Some definite WR depth. Don't fret about not getting Boller - I think in the long run you'll be happy you didn't...
