SEAN TAYLOR
Miami, Fla
Ht: 6'3"
Wt: 230 lbs.

Strengths:
Taylor is gifted physically; he has speed, strength, and quickness. He reads quarterbacks well and is excellent in pass coverage. Hits like a truck and is always around the ball, much like Ronnie Lott was in his prime for the 49ers. Is a prototpe NFL safety.

Weaknesses:
Is still a little new to the position, being a recently converted runningback. Needs to be a better tackler, but that will come with more experience.

Projection:
Should be a top 5-10 pick. The Giants, Redskins, and Lions are all considering Taylor.

MATT WARE
UCLA
HT: 6' 2"
WT: 210 lbs.

STRENGTHS:
Matt Ware has excellent size and speed for the free safety position. He runs a 4.48 forty and is very athletic. Ware played CB primarily in college because of a lack of depth at that position.  He has tremendous size for that position. Ware is a ballhawk with excellent hands. With a 40 inch vertical, he can outjump most receivers and won't lose too many jumpballs. Ware is a very smart player who can read a play well. He is a character guy and a great teammate.

WEAKNESSES:
Ware often plays the ball (trying for the interception) instead of the receiver and can put himself out of position. He also needs to improve his tackling technique as he relies too much on arm tackles instead of wrapping up. The arm tackles worked in college, but a big NFL WR will brush those aside easily. Ware also has a history of getting beat by the big name receivers. Reggie Williams and Mike Williams both had big days against him in 2003. I don't know if it is intimidation, but Ware will have to come up big against the big names.

PROJECTION:
Ware will probably be drafted as a free safety as that is the position he is best suited for. He is as athletic and talented as Sean Taylor (who will be a top ten pick), but doesn't have as much size or experience at the safety position. Because of this, look for Matt Ware to drop into the second round. There are many teams who could use a solid safety and he would look good in either New York uniform.

MADIEU WILLIAMS
Maryland
HT: 6' 0"
WT: 193 lbs.

STRENGTHS:
Madieu Williams transferred from Towson State to Maryland as a walk-on.  He quickly became one of the best and most respected players on the team.  A tireless worker, Williams is an excellent prospect at the NFL level.  He has good size for the free safety position.  He can play the run and is a very solid tackler.  He puts some pop in his hits and can create turnovers.  Williams also excels in pass coverage.  He has the skills and technique necessary for a cornerback.  Williams has good speed and outstanding quickness.  He reads the defense well and reacts quickly.  He never gives up on a play.

WEAKNESSES:
While Williams has been effective at the FS position in college, he will need to add some weight to play in the NFL where the backs and receivers are much bigger and faster.  He has the frame to add mass without sacrificing too much athleticism.  Williams does not possess great speed over a long distance and could be a liability in the deep passing game, although he may be able to compensate by reading the play and positioning himself.  Williams does not have great hands.  He will make the easy interception, but will have to settle for breaking up passes most of the time.

PROJECTION:
Madieu Williams really caught the eyes of the scouts at the Senior Bowl.  He was consistently one of the most impressive safeties in practices and during the game.  With his instincts, abilities, and effort, he should be a second or third round pick.  Williams could go as early as pick #51 (2nd round) to the Ravens or as late as #76 (3rd round) to the Jets.

SEAN JONES
Georgia
HT: 6' 1"
WT: 215 lbs.

STRENGTHS:
Sean Jones enters the draft as a junior and is likely the second best FS prospect behind Sean Taylor. His best asset is that he is a playmaker. He is always around the ball whether it is on the ground or in the air. Jones is an outstanding athlete. He is fast (4.5 forty) and can cover receivers effectively. He is strong and is a solid tackler who can deliver a big hit and cause turnovers. He is an excellent leaper which he uses on defense to break up and intercept passes and also on special teams where he blocked four field goal attempts in college. Jones is a confident player and plays with intensity.

WEAKNESSES:
Jones can let his confidence turn into cockiness at times which will hurt him on the field. He is effective in zone coverage, but has yet to prove his abilities in man coverage. He also tries to improvise at times, straying from the defensive game plan. Jones will need to add some meat to his bones in order to keep hitting like he does.

PROJECTION:
Jones is a solid prospect at the position and will be selected in the early to mid second round of the draft. In a couple years he should be a Pro-Bowl caliber player. He could be selected by the Lions (#36) or the Jags (#39).
