Eli Manning is going to go first in the draft.  The question is which team wants him bad enough to trade up.  I see the Giants moving up to take this pick.

(On I side note, I think the chargers will then in turn trade out of the 4th spot too.)

In my opinion, he is the elite QB of the draft.   A lot of people have other quarterbacks high in the draft, but I think he will be the man when all is said and done.  He almost single handly turned around Ole Miss against some tough competition.  I think he can do the same for a professional franchise.  He is good enough to start his rookie year.

Washington Redskins get the man they wanted.  They get Sean Taylor, best Defensive player on the board.  He is a perfect fit for Gregg Williams defensive scheme.  The Skins are throwing up smoke signals that they want Gallery, but I don't think a trade will get done.  I think they just want to force the Giants hand.

You guys are doin' a great job! Remember there is no rush.  Go as far as you can.  You've got 10 days.  I'd love to see this thing go for FOUR or so rounds! ...

Also, since I'm not going to be participating (unless I am really inspired at a particular moment and feel adequately capable/knowledgeable to make a particular pick), I thought I would maintain the comprehensive list of picks for you all.  It is in the first post of this thread as you can see.  I will just update it from time to time.

Also on a related note, PLEASE maintain the standard format, at least as a favor to me.  It makes maintaining the comprehensive list MUCH easier on me when I go to cut and paste the picks from the other thread.  Thank you for your anticipated cooperation!

I think if the first 5 picks happen to go down as we have projected, the Lions would look to definitely trade down (most likely with the Pats).  Sean Taylor is the guy many "experts" believe the Lions have their eye on.

Wow.  Couple of surprises in our mock draft already.   Sean Taylor to the Redskins is one.

Tommie Harris slipping to the Titans is another.

The biggest surprise in my mind was the pick made by Philly.  Pittsburgh not taking Phillip Rivers shocked me.

It makes the pick for the Bills pretty easy.....Phillip Rivers.

I have the Jets taking Wilfork.  Going with best player on the board strategy.  Not a need, but I see the Jets trading out if it stands like this.  Cause the depth at corner in this draft is HUGE.

Oops sorry I guess I don't have Rivers ranked as highly as you Dirk.  If there are any surprises I'd say not having a RB taken by now is the biggest.

With the loss of Winfield, I felt Gamble was the perfect fit.  Vincent's best years are behind him & the Bills seem to have a fondness for Buckeye CBs.  Besides I'm not so sure the Bill's front office is ready to admit to their fans that they made a mistake with Bledsoe.

Rivers is an option, and I considered him, but I thought that DeAngelo Hall was just too good to pass up at #11.  The Steelers certainly need a stud CB, and Hall is the highest rated one.  I could see the Steelers possibly moving up to grab Roethlisberger (who I don't think will go to Arizona) or moving down to select Rivers later in the round.

Again, a nice possibility for the Bills.

Wilfork is a stud, but they traded up to get a DT last year, so they might be more interested in grabbing a CB here. Remember that Coach Herm Edwards is a former DB himself and is rumored to really like Chris Gamble (plus Dunta Robinson is climbing the boards quickly too)...

Well when making the selection for an NFL team I'm trying to look at it through their eyes.  They've invested a boat load of money in the idea that Drew is their franchise QB.  My theory is that things seem to always happen in 3s.  So I am thinking they wanna give it one more year before they decide whether or not they have to rethink that idea.

Actually I'm in the minority on Bledsoe.  I liked him while he was here.  On the other hand, it is painfully clear that Drew & QBs of his type are not made to last in this era of football.

So perhaps I did contradict myself.  I just feel Buffalo has invested far too much to be willing to throw it all away after only 2 seasons.

I don't think you contradicted yourself.  I understood your thinking.(scarey)

With that being said,  I see Rivers as the QB of the future in Buffalo.    He can sit behind Bledsoe for a year, year and half getting ready to be the main man.

To be honest, I really hate my pick of Wilfork by the Jets.  I don't think they would take him.  However, I don't the Jets staying where they are given the way our draft played out.  IMO they would trade down since there is not much difference between Hall, Gamble, Smith, etc at the cornerback position.  So, going by best player on the board, it is actually a good VALUE pick.

...And, thus, you don't have them selecting a quarterback! Gotchya, bakes!  That implicit possibility was not made explicit enough for me to follow.  It went by me too fast. No flaw or contradiction at all in your logic, in any case, bakes.  Maybe a bit over-concise in your initial explanation, a bit of a leap in logic perhaps, leaving too much between the lines for us under-informed to have to read, but your ultimate reasoning, at least, is solid.

Number 14 to the Bears was a tough one.  Wilfork was their #1 choice, but he went earleir than they expected.

So, the question was to go best player available (Will Smith?) or draft for need.  Since they missed out on Wilfork, they could consider trading down a few spots to a team interested in a DE or even Philip Rivers at QB.

But Randy Starks is a very solid DT and it is a position of definite need.  Brian Urlacher is a great MLB, but only when he has blockers in front of him.  He's too small to work off of blocks and needs open space to make plays (like he did when he had Ted Washington and Keith Traylor in front of him in 2001).

THe 49ers pick was a tough one.  They were targeting Reggie Williams but he went to the Bucs.

THey really need a receiver, but it was too early to take any of the receivers left.  Dunta Robinson does fill a need at cornerback.

However, with all this being said, the 49ers have openly stated they want to move out of this spot.  They have  many many holes to fill and they want more picks.  I see a team like New England moving up to this spot to jump ahead of the Broncos to take a DE or Steven Jackson who is still on the board.  ( It is rumored the Broncos may take a running back)

Steg, WalkerBoh?  Either of you want to take this pick?  I too was leaning towards Steven Jackson, although maybe one of you has the inside skinny on their true intents...

Sorry for stepping in but I'd really like to get to the Pats pick at 21 before 5 o'clock today.  Especially seeing as how I won't likely have access to the net over the weekend.

As the 2 previously posted, Steven Jackson makes sense here.  Although with BIG Will Smith still looming the temptation was there.  Also I wouldn't be shocked if it was the Broncos who grabbed Rivers.  Denver has a long history of success with backs that weren't highly regarded coming out of college, so drafting a RB this early is out of character for them.

However, in the end Jackson is the best value at this point of the draft & he fills a glaring need with the trade of Portis.

Regarding the pick made for my Donkos, given how this mock draft is going, I was thinking tailback, as well.  If I had made the pick, I too would have taken Steven Jackson.

I'm not sure how this mock draft works or who is going to do the selection for the Vikes but can I suggest Will Smith, the obvious choice. I can't believe he is still available and would be a dream for the Vikes if he fell to 19 .

He would fit a huge need for the Vikes especially with Mixon's   conviction and his suspension to follow.
