The first pick overall seems to be the same in nearly every mock I've seen so far... that's where the consistency ends.  Plenty of different opinions on who the next players should be and Alexander and James are two proven guys who can get it done (and will likely be playing for a new contract).

From a pure fantasy standpoint, it is hard not to draft Peyton Manning. I'd take him #2 overall behind LT2, ahead of Alexander and Edge.

The #5 spot is where I really see the draft going all over the place.  There are so many different running backs out there.  I took McGahee because he had a strong finish to last year and I really think Henry will be gone by the start of the season.

It was a tough decision though.  The Jones'(Julius and Kevin)  were hard to pass up.  Then you have Jamal, Priest, and McAllister.

This year is a draft I would rather own picks later in the round than the beginning.

Well... I'll be the first to choose a WR.  Randy Moss has a new address, Terrell Owens has a new complaint, so Marvin Harrison looks like the safest bet amongst the WRs in 2005.

With LaMont Jordan shipped out of town, good ole' Curtis Martin, despite his age, becomes an even more sure thing in '05.  I don't think he will push for the rushing title this year, but, especially considering his sturdiness, I do think he is about as solid of a bet for 1,250 and 10 rushing that there is.

So far, the pattern is holding:

3 top RBs, then P. Manning
Next tier RBs (7), then C Pep
Next tier RBs (6), then Harrison (first WR)
Then McNabb, C Mart & Oh Randy (grabbing talent because it won't be there later)

Nice Mock!

I do wonder if Owens is falling too far.  After the usual agent crap is over, he will produce, as usual.

Wishful thinking?

I see him going WAY later (like around the 8th or 9th round) in most mocks so far this year.  This is a run first team, although Lelie could show up, and it would be no surprise.

Michael seemed to go pretty early, too.

Jake Plummer at #25?  What a joke.  Even if you think he could have those types of numbers you could grab him in the 7th round instead of the 8th. (which is where he will go)  In EVERY mock draft I have seen he goes no earlier than the 6th round.

Homer Pick.    (Steg has a Boner for Plummer!!!)   Hell, why not just put Elways name instead?

DD, Callie, while I surely appreciate whence you guys are coming, remember these "huddle" things by nature (label aside) are essentially a hybrid between a mock draft and a rankings list.  Typically in the past I identified them as "rankings".  This time I decided to use the terminology "mock draft".  But, that does not change the fact that we are not drafting with teams in mind.  The point is to bring into play what we actually think these guys will do in '05... with an eye towards how we see fantasy drafts playing out.  With this in mind, I believe my pick of Plummer at 25 is defensible.  I liked him better than the next running back or wide receiver (and obviously next quarterback) on the board and I think that is within the realm of reason even if it is extremely unlikely that he gets drafted at such a high ranking.

I agree, Plummer went WAY too high.

Bulger, Green, Vick, Hasselbeck, Collins, Palmer, Brady, Favre, Brooks, Brees should all have gone before him.

I like Plummer in '05 a smidgen more than Bulger, Green and Vick, my next three QB's probably in that order.  Collins would probably be next.  As for Palmer, Brady, Favre, Brooks and Brees in '05, I like Plummer quite a bit more than them.

I won't even begin to try to defend the Plummer pick...    (even with Steggies explanation).  Plummer had similar numbers last season (4089 pass yards and 27 TDs - along with 20 INTs), but even then was only tied for 7th in fantasy scoring per game amongst QBs (using a standard scoring rubric).

But as for Michael Bennett... he may seem to have gone a little high, but let's look at things here.  He is the unquestioned starter in Minny.  Onterrio is gone, Moe is a vulture (who is getting old and only had 4 TDs in 2004), Mewelde is a back-up, and Fason is an untested rookie.  Also, the Vikes have stated that they will look to balance the running and passing games more this season and they have a very good O-line to run behind.  Finally, Bennett needs to have a great season to earn a big contract (likely his last chance to do so).

Oh, Lord...  I would definitely take Bulger over the rather risky picks of Jordan (but I do like him), Brown (VERY concerned about him at this point) and Bell (not the given he was looking like he would be) and perhaps ahead of Holt and Johnson as well.

By the way, I think the Bennett pick was right on! Bennett may have some of his numbers vultured, but he's going to be the go-to tailback in Minnesota again this season!

I was torn on the 34 pick.  I was not sure if I should go with Tony G or Antonio  Gates.  Ultimately Tony Gonzalez 1300 yards beat out Antonio Gates 13 TDs.  It really is a coin flip.  However, I went with a proven commidity vs someone who will be highly defensed this year.

(there was also Javon Walker, but with his hold out and the question of being a one year wonder.....)

I don't know that teams will be able to better defend against Gates in 2005.  You better believe that NFL defensive coordinators knew about Gates following the end of the 2003 season when he really came on.  The problem is that his size/speed combo at the TE position really creates mismatches against safeties and linebackers (and defensive ends) who try to cover him.  I think that Gates has vaulted to the top of the TE list, supplanting Gonzo, Heap, and Shockey (who were the triumvirate for the past few years).

In the early mocks I've seen, Taylor has usually been going somewhere in the 4th round.  Where in the 4th varies, but I think most of the time it's early in the 4th.

Xpertsports (which already has a number of mocks on the books with which to get an idea of ADP) has Fred Taylor at 3.2 in a 12 team league (on average).  In 450+ drafts he's gone as early as #15 and as late as #38 overall and has a top 100 average of about 26.  So he definitely went later here than most are projecting him.  I kept seeing him on the xpertsports top 100 cheat sheet I'm using as a reference (since I haven't done all my extensive homework yet - Callie can attest to how much I do since I sent her my cheatsheets last year) but I wasn't willing to pull the trigger on him because of his injury issues.

Had to grab Collins!  He's been going about a round later in most mocks I've seen, but he has so many targets and an improved O line.
