Fellow Gridironers and ettes, I need a little help with a problem I'm having in my FF league. I have a two game lead on the rest of the teams. In our league it's customary to submit your line up to your opponent before the kickoff of the first game of the NFL week. Most people just simply send the line-up via group wide Email. If you do not submit a line up then your starters remain the same as the last submission. We do not have an electronic system to report to. We have a human statistician and a human commissioner. Most of the people playing remain the same year after year. Here's what happened. Yesterday I did not receive an emailed list of starters from my opponent. I assumed that he was playing last weeks starters. When I went to bed I thought I had carried a nine-point lead into Monday night. We are a scoring only league and he has Farve going against the Vikes. Since I hold the tiebreaker, farve would need to throw 4 TD's for me to lose. I'm cautiously optimistic when I go to bed. This morning when I wake up, I find an email where my opponent has changed his line up before game time with a call to the statisticians voice mail. He removed a player that didn't score and played one that did. Now if Farve throws two TD's I lose. I'm not so optimistic. The Stat man emailed the league the change last night at 11:40 pm. For several years we had a problem of people not telling their opponent who their starters were. They would just tell the Stat guy. Stat boy wasn't always home for people to access the info. People had a problem with that. It's no fun not knowing your opponents line-up. We eventually put in a rule that clearly states that you must at least tell the stat guy and one other owner your line up or change for them to be legal. This still happens from time to time. Players don't care about ensuring their opponent gets their line up. It's frustrating. Here's my problem. My opponent, I'm sure was on the up and up. He didn't cheat. He submitted before the game started. He was on vacation he claims. He made a cell phone call to the only number he knew to make his change. I filed a protest. This type of violation happens over and over. Year after year. I feel like I need to call someone out on this rule. My opponent says that if the protest is upheld he will quit the league. I'm gonna have a big problem if its not. Are the rules meaningless? We are all friends in this league. Some more than others. Is there a pecking order? This is what I'm trying to find out. If I win this protest I will probably withdraw it in the spirit of sportsmanship and take the loss. It's the proper thing to do. This is really about the common courtesy of going the extra mile to ensure your opponent gets a proper line-up. Its really why we play. It's a big let down when you can't play along after you wait all week to get to Sunday. Todd

This kind of thing has been happening a lot this year it seems. Similar but different scenarios have happened in both of my leagues, including the GBRFL. http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=53;a ction=display;num=1129936101. It seems clear to me from your post. | If that is really a rule that was voted on etc. then how can there be a question. Your opponent may say that is a silly rule and that there are certain situations where you cannot let someone else know (which I would generally agree with). However that should have been brought up and voted on before you had a rule. Too late for him to cry now. Also, quitting because of a situation like this is weak.
