I am in another sim league that is all Buffalo Bills fans, a few of us enjoyed the sim league so much we started another with the idea of bringing fans from other teams in. Just hoping to get some new blood. I have been browsing these forums since I joined and will continue to visit/post. |
| Devin-- GREAT NEWS AND GLAD TO HEAR!!! Welcome aboard. I think you will enjoy this site very much. Lots of great people around here with substance in their posts. I am familiar with CDS, and if you enjoy that type of insight, you will enjoy this place as well..... Sorry to doubt you, but I have seen it so many times before.... Again, welcome aboard and glad to have you......

| DM, I am just going to throw this out there... I don't know what kind of message-board set-up you guys have. You all may be fine. BUT, it is a possibility, only if you are interested, for you guys to have your board hosted here in our "Affiliate Leagues" forum section. Vis-a-vis being hidden under the rock of a private league message board, this would give you guys a real public presence,... public exposure for your unique project, which could really grow and thrive in an environment like this, as well as a pipeline to a pool of potential participants, in the case of this place, a REALLY GOOD pool. Doing something like this would allow you to really be able to showcase your league to the public. Just some food for though, friend... I just like to bring the "little guys" (in this hobby) together so that we can all feed off one another's successes and thrive rather than struggle and stumble along, too stubborn to work with one another and be part of an integrated effort for fear of... I don't know what (but I've experienced it). Again, just throwin' it out there...

Furthermore, by the way, DM, you could have your League Champion listed on the index page of "the Gridiron" with those of the rest of our featured and affiliate leagues... http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi#5. Seeing your name in lights... Now that's rewarding or, should I say, awarding!!!

| Well,... the whole project here is to get folks (doing great things in the hobby like I am guessing you guys are) out from under their rocks, under which so many so stubbornly insist on remaining... (I can only surmise because they fear that "joining forces" is somehow an assault on their "individuality"/"identity"/"superiority" and is a step toward their leagues' being somehow "subsumed", ; as opposed to seeing it as a "coming together" and "building up" of many great projects, they see it as a "breaking apart" and "watering down" of their own "great" project)..., and bring them together in a "substantive" greater community, where we can all feed off each other's "energy", "efforts" and ideas, or, at least, give them a shot at some public exposure, which (I'm speaking generally here) based on the self-promotion of some dudes, you know they want... and, you know what, I'm willing to grant, probably deserve. Deep-down they want that "next greater level" of attention, which, again, they very well may deserve based on their efforts, but are not willing to do what it takes to garner that "next greater level" of attention, namely coming together with others and plugging their project into a greater one, for fear of some loss of identity/superior position. Instead, they opt for their sites' being added to yet another list of a thousand links and mentioning their sites on message-board forums wherever they get the chance, methods which at the end of the day do not cut the mustard, but allow them to remain in their "safe zone", under their rock over in their corner of the internet, not having to interact with anybody else,... the attention of whom they want, though. You see the picture (of circular reasoning) I'm painting. It's not necessarily yours, DM. I realize that. I'm just giving you,... everybody,... a glimpse into my (at least peripherally-related) experiences since I opened shop here three and a half years ago. Getting back to you, DM, the bottom line is, though it may be a far-far-far-off possibility, I am not anticipating hosting fantasy football web sites in the near future, if ever, and paid web hosting almost invariably anymore comes with a ("free") message-board FORUM, not just a message board, mind you, which is all an individual league needs. I'm (safely) guessing, based on what you stated, that is the (kind of) set-up you all have, in which case your forum need never be detached from your web hosting. I.e., you'll never need to separate your board from your (paid) web hosting. My point is that having a league message board hosted on (I'll even go as far as to say a site like) "the Gridiron" is something that people should do because they want to, not just because they need to. The only other (very unlikely) scenario is that you someday decide to opt for free web hosting, which very likely might not include a message board, so you could come to a place like this for your message board needs OR, more likely, you could go to one of the many free FORUM-hosting sites, where you could have all the bells and whistles of a FORUM of your own, which you've probably grown accustomed to and, even though an individual league needs a WHOLE forum like a hole in the head, would probably opt for,... even though you'd still be out under a hidden rock, your very own rock underbelly, mind you. In any event, my guess is that you've got your own domain and, given how affordable web hosting is anymore, once you've had the pleasure of having your own domain name and site (which, by the way, DM, you should feel free to share, i.e. give us a link for ), you never want to go back to that free BS again with a convoluted URL and all their ads. And, in any event, to reiterate, I'm not looking so much for people in need of a message board as I am for people who want their message board to be on "the Gridiron" for all the aforementioned reasons I (incessantly) harp on. ... For me (I'm speaking in general now again), it is just so surprising how difficult it is to pull people out from under those rocks, people who, mind you, want and, I would even go as far as to say in most cases, deserve the attention. Bottom, bottom line,... quite literally here, is... if the only question you ever ask yourself is "Do we need our message board hosted on (a site like) 'the Gridiron'?", the answer, in this day and age, is invariably going to be, "No!" The REAL question I'm suggesting you have to confront is "Do we want our message board hosted on (a site like) 'the Gridiron'?" To that question you can legitimately answer, "Yes," or "No."
