Marcus Allen {any opinions of his going in as a Chief?}
James Lofton
Art Monk
Lester Hayes
Hank Starm*

I'm only aware of this because I'm a KC local, but Stram was nominated by the Seniors Comitee. He automatically joins the 15 selected finalists, and then has to get the same 80% of the votes as the regular nominess.

Just for fun, here's my fantasy team off the list

QB - Jim McMahon
RB - Marcus Allen
RB - Roger Craig
WR- James Lofton
WR - Sterling Sharpe
TE - Todd Christiansen

not all of these guys are actuall HOF material in my book, but I'd love to field this team.

Has Allen said anything lately?  My info is several seasons old. At one point during his time here he was publicly saying he'd go in as a Chief.  He easily, and to be honest, imo, could have changed his mind. A part of me would enjoy having another Chief in the hall, but this one would seem kind of hollow.

The CBS guys (Deion, Marino, Boomer) put him on the spot last week, and he said he'd let his momma decide.

Takes the pressure off him!

Seriously, I think he'll choose to go in as a Raider,he had his best years with them, plus his Superbowl win as well.

If I could pick two they would be  Boomer, an artist at the play action fake.  Tasker, always gave 110%.  I know neither is likely but I did enjoy their games.

OKay--

I finally have a chance to go through this list and tell you who is going to make it.

I think 5 have to get in every year, so I am gonna go with that number.

Marcus Allen--as a raider
Art Monk--  arguably in the top 3 WRs of all time with Largent and Rice.
Richard Dent-- NO BRAINER
Joe Jacoby
Ed "too tall" Jones

I would like to see some of my favorite players growing up make it, but alas:
Karl Mecklenburg
Zimmerman
Hilenburg--maybe in a few years.

From more of a modern-day perspective, which is mine, I really like the selections of Marcus Allen going in as a first-balloter and James Lofton, who I have always had admiration for even though I can't stand his fantasy football advice on that FOX Sports Net fantasy football show he is/was on. Though I hate to say it as a Broncos fan, I do think Marcus should go in as a Raider.  Sorry FourTwoOh!  From a historical perspective, of which, granted, I am less knowledgeable, I really like seeing Hank Stram finally get in.  He seemed to be the quintessential coach, at least of the times, and a successful one at that.  I also don't know how much longer a guy like that, who arguably should be inducted, has a chance to get in, so I am happy he got in now.  Congrats, FourTwoOh!

I almost literally "cut my baby teeth" on Hank Stram coaching pro football, so I'm as biased as they come. Very likely I'll be making my initial pilmgramige to Canton this summer. Stram and Allen, Chiefs - Packers HOF game. Road trip!

I tend to agree with you, Dirk.  I think Monk should eventually be in the Hall.  But, I did remember reading something about six months ago regarding why Monk should not be inducted into the Hall... ever, and I found it! It is actually Peter King, whose opinion I typically respect, who makes this assertion! Here is the quote:

Memo to Mel Kiper: You say Art Monk should be a lock for the Hall of Fame, and you say you can't figure a single reason why he hasn't been voted in. I'm a voter. Here's why: Monk played 16 NFL seasons. He was All-Pro twice. He led his team in receiving six times in 16 seasons. I covered the Giants in the mid-'80s, and they respected Gary Clark and feared Clark far more than Monk. Yes, he caught more than 900 balls. In 10 years, he'll be about 15th on the all-time receptions list. Classy guy, wonderful person off the field -- but neither of those things can be factored in when we consider qualification for induction. Monk belongs in the Hall of Very Good, not the Hall of Fame.

Here is a link to the whole article, but I have to admit that the excerpt above is all that is stated regarding the issue at hand:

Should be a smiling cry, but tears none the less during Hank Stram's induction. Shame he had to wait this long. If some of you missed it, he was rolled out in a wheelchair and instead of making an actual speech, he had taped a acceptance speech that they had edited in with some of classic sideline animations. Quite touching.

Lofton's speech was very nice as well. Marcus is two away at this point.

I caught the end of Lofton's speech and the beginning of Elvin Bethea's speech.  I wish I caught the Stram speech - sounds pretty intense.

Stram was not only a great coach, motivator and teacher he was a terrific analyst from the point of view of explaining in lay man's terms what was going on.

Even at the induction he was still innovative with the speech being taped and all etc.

I'm really glad he made it in while living

Thought this old thread should be bumped up given today's somber news.  From "The REAL Feed":

Hall of Fame coach Stram dead
ESPN: NFL (04.07.2005 16:59)
Stram still Chiefs' all-time winningest coach by Associated PressNEW ORLEANS -- Hall of Fame coach Hank Stram, who took the Kansas City Chiefs to two Super Bowls and was known for his inventive game plans and exuberance on the sideline, died Monday,
his family said. He was 82. Stram had been in ...
