Colts vs. Steelers

Wow. That's where you've GOT to start. WOW. The Steelers jump out to an aggressive 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and then allow the Colts to dominate the second quarter in EVERY category......except one: points. Held scoreless in the first quarter, the Colts score a measley 3 points in the second. However, they took a -3 (yes...that's a NEGATIVE three yards) total offense in the first quarter to over a hundred yards in the second alone. They dominated field position, ball possession, time on the field and offensive yards. But they couldn't get it done in the endzone. The third quarter held what was quite possibly the WORST CALL BY AN OFFICIAL EVER! Poloamalualaualua OBVIOUSLY had the interception, had possession, rolled over, knocked the ball out of his own grasp and recovered his own fumble. He had complete possession throughout the roll before fumbing and recovering. It was quite clear that he had possession and they called it an INCOMPLETE PASS????? That game never should have been that close. Take away that horrible call and you give the ball back to Pittsburgh, Cower continues to run time off the clock and the Steelers continue to rumble slowly forward toward the AFC Championship game. Fast forward to the last possession of the Steelers in the fourth quarter. They have the ball, first down at the goal line. Three timeouts each team still, so Big Ben can't just kneel it and run out the clock. Can't kick the FG already because you don't want to give Manning the ball back w/so much time. So what do you do? Give the Bus the ball. And he loses it. Wow. Harper picks up the fumble, runs it back halfway down the field and finally gets brought down on a shoestring tackle by Ruthless-burger. (btw, did Bill get 2 points for that tackle?) With less than a minute left on the clock, the most accurate kicker in NFL history takes the field. One kick, two seconds and 40 yards away lies overtime and possible redemption for the Colts. And he kicks it so far right, it landed in Pittsburgh. WHAT??? Vandy missed? The ONLY kick he's missed ALL YEAR at home, the MOST IMPORTANT kick of the year and he missed. The Colts could've lost ANY game during the regular season and it wouldn't have hurt them....except this one. And Vander-choked missed it so far right that it knocked out a beer vendor on the 20 yard line mezzanine. Wow. So let's consider this for a moment. Say Manning threw a TD and the Colts won instead. This is the last year for the Bus. Consider the implecations for a moment. The fifth-leading rusher in NFL history. Bound for the Hall of Fame most definately. And his very last carry of his career would've been a fumble. A fumble that would've cost them his team the game. A fumble that would've cost his team the chance to go the AFC Championship game and quite possibly the Superbowl. His ENTIRE career would've hinged on ONE carry that may have cost him his LAST CHANCE for a SUPERBOWL RING. Wow. Lucky for him Manning didn't throw a TD and Vanderjagt missed. The Colts go home, the Steelers move on, and the Bus lives to run another Sunday. Long live the Bus. Keep on Truckin' baby!

| I kind of thought of this somewhat in terms of "pay-back" for the 4th & 1 play in which Faneca "twitched" on a false start play - flags were THROWN mind you - yet NO penalty was called!! Play over. Pitt gets another chance at a 1st down. Quote: So what do you do? Give the Bus the ball. And he loses it. Wow. |

| IRONIC if you ask me the bee. remember him BEE-Otchin that Dungy, Manning and company didn't have that "killer" instinct - the one that would put opponent's to rest - to put the GAME AWAY. and so,...............what you reap, you sew. Actually, on that fourth and inches call when Faneca twitched and the Colts jumped over the line.....no flags were thrown at all. Another crazy part of an insane equation that was that play. Still, I'm glad to see the Colts lose. Maybe Peyton can make money in the off-season renting out that acre of space on his forehead as a billboard. Goodness knows he needs the money. After all, his contract is only worth NINETY-FIVE MILLION DOLLARS. Only. Wonder if Bill Polian paid Manning out of his wallet or he cut him a check..... The funny thing is.....$95,000,000.00 and Manning STILL can't take them to the SuperBowl!!!!!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

 | I DIGRESS...
Just an observation,... so take it with a grain of salt... But, it is from the guy who runs the joint, so... it may just merit a sliver of "considerat(e)"ion... This is a great thread, JT. Wouldn't sharing it with the "greater Gridiron family" here be cool? I mean the point of the set-up of "the Gridiron @FantasyFootballer.com", as opposed to the typical FF message-board forum set-ups where league boards are segregated (to the point of even having "locked" league boards), is to (hopefully) facilitate interaction between people coming from different corners of the fantasy football world. It's about bringing together a community, rather than just having a pocket of dudes here and a pocket there, each under their own rocks. Case in point, I'd like to get to know you, JT, a dude who is an obvious football fanatic and die-hard fantasy footballer (moreover, who frequents my site), and some of the others here, BUT I am RARELY, for most of you, NEVER afforded the opportunity. I mean... whatever... It just seems like when it's THIS obvious and EASY, I should at least just make mention of the "spirit" of the site. Furthermore, there is a trickle-down "reality" here: what is good for "the Gridiron" is good for you all, and it's a shame not to see an Insane Gang Banger being a part of that (and, moreover, not seeing and "appreciating" the "bigger picture", and, mind you, I'm not even talking about "giving back" here (I mean "word-for-DOLLAR (I spend on you all to some small degree by running the site)", most of you haven't even exchanged a "word" with me,... period,... no less for every dollar, which, granted, there aren't many I spend on each of you if you break it down,... (but) which in a way makes my point all the more poignant (I mean, mind you, on most sites this doesn't matter, but NOT mine, where I am trying to engender a sense of "family"); again, I'm NOT talking about "returning the favor"; I'm just talking about "being a part of"). I mean "the Gridiron spirit" could have been simply manifest by just posting this thread on the appropriate of our three MAIN boards, in this case "the Sidelines": http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58. Such a NICE gesture... and all it would (have) take(n) was, without any change in "substance", just posting this on "the Sidelines" and mingling with "the Gridiron" crew... just a bit. This is not to mention the fact (of the matter) that your thread here would have gotten more attention up there. Anyway, PLEASE think about this next time. Thank you! |

| Come'on babe-bee!!!!!! Even if I disliked the Colts OR, better yet, hated them as I do the New England Patsies, just by pure respect of Tony Dungy and what he has gone through with his son's loss,' you HAD to have some small part of you, WANTING the Colts to win - or at LEAST, Not minding if they did win, Quote:| Maybe Peyton can make money in the off-season renting out that acre of space on his forehead as a billboard. |

| Tough call on the Manning! Dead Manning walking? P.Manning is ONE guy on a football team of 53. Is it really fair to blame the post-season success solely on his shoulders? I am too analytical of a person to BEE able to muster that "black & white" and XTREMEEEEEEEE type of perspective.............................. ..............though............... I wonder? Peyton got sacked FIVE times in that game!!!!! Whats astonishing is that, PITT hardly ever sent more than 5 blitzing defenders!!!!! It was 5 on 5 babe-bee!!!!! Now usually, it is the center's job to make the line-call adjustments to counter-act defense's blitz packages, but Indy is unique in that, Peyton Manning has A LOT of say-so at the LOS. Did HE call the blocking adjustments for that game? If so, and to tie this all together, then I believe, you can indeed put the loss of this game - with all due respect to Vanderjact's missed FG, on Peyton Manning. Now, further more - as a tid-bit of personal perference in regards to play-calling, I did NOT like the pass right BEFORE THE FG WAS ATTEMPTED - that being the INCOMPLETION to the left side - rather than, an easy completion down the middle for a few yards upfield......................... shorter field goal to make - easier field goal to make and perhaps JUST PERHAPS!!, VanderWacko wouldn't have had the fact that he hruled out against his own team - Manning and Dungy inparticular - ON HIS MIND - IN THE BACK OF HIS MIND when kicking that FG. Kapain Karmel Karma Kones, out

You give me the high sign, i.e. direct answer to this question, and I will (GLADLY,... not just in the hack sense) do so. Oh, and by the way, just so you know, if this thread does get moved, a "move notice" linking to its new location will remain on this board.

The question now is................... whats next for the Colts? How do they IMPROVE in order to get to the superbowl? This year seemed to have the writing on the walls for Indy/Manning/Dungy and company. First 12 games - undefeated! Their defense, an achilles heel in the past, now a collective bunch of speed demons that wide receivers and quarterbacks fear - Re-vitalization of EDGE and the running game. New England, their "monkey on back" AFC rival, weakened and vunerable, Home field advantage throughout the playoffs,- A DOME-appointed Super-Bowl in detriot - playing to their incredible team speed. The Colts are potent in many areas. Coaching, offense, defense and a pair of the best kicker/punter combo in the NFL. So, I ask what now? The thorn in Indy's side is the 3-4 defense. The Chargers were the first to expose it THIS year. In fact, it is rumored that some around the NFL brass believe that Merriman is living off of the game in which he smothered & beat-up Peyton Manning all day long in the Colt's first loss of the 05 seasoning. However, the Patriots are the first that should get credit. Their 3-4 defensive adjustments sporting Bruschi, Vrabel, McGinest and compnay, have been shattering the Colt's super-bowl dreams AND Peyton Manning's reputation for some time now. And so, I the BEE ask-eth of THEE, WHAT IS BLITZBURG MADE OF?????????????????? One of the BEST most FEARED THREE-FOUR speed-blitzing defenses in the NFL. And now I come to my early prognosis of the Colt's future success , Dungy, Take your BLAZING SPEED-BURNING 4-3 defense, already smallish in it's form, and turn it into your offense's achilles heel. Manning and Co. would then have to practice against a 3-4 defense - and probably one of the best in the NFL with the talent you have on defense - all season long. KING SAYS,,,,,,,,,, Practice makes perfect! HOLA!!!!!!! BABE-BEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| I still don't understand this part. Manning specifically said "WE had protection problems" "WE" as in TEAM - as in the INDY COLTS - as in Manning and the REST of the TEAM I think the media here is really the ones to blow this shit the wrong way. I mean, what is Manning supposed to say? You want a vanilla answer? One that is politically correct? OR You want the truth? You know, I really have an indepth hatred (extreme dislike) for those "after-the=game & half-time" interviews, heck, I even feel the same way about some of the press conferences, Its scripted. And THATS insulting to our intelligence. IMO, Manning said nothing wrong. Its the VULTURES of the media, waiting for some piece - some morsel or scrappling of information to surface, and in this case, Manning's statement was their BIG FAT meal, dripping with the drama-filled T.V.-drenched monsoon of the season. Causing a "rip" in the universe of "#1 rated regular season teams" - inparticularly, Manning and his soft-boiled Colts. Annnnnnnd this of course opens the doors for a wide variety of other critisizm : Can Dungy win the Big one? Can Manning? Are the Colts soft? Do they have that "killer" instinct"? Is thier defense really that great? The seeds have been planted. I for one would really like to know the indepth dynamics of the game from a game player. One that was in the action. And maybe just maybe, if given the chance, Manning MIGHT HAVE expanded further on his opinion and an indepth self-critisizm would have been allowed to surface. But we'll never know that. The Media has already taken this into their own hands. By the way,,,,,,,,,, said it best : "I REMEMBER WHEN THEY SAID ELWAY WOULD NEVER WIN A SUPER-BOWL EITHER - THEN AT THE END OF HIS CAREER, HE WON 2."
