I couldn't find a picture of my favorite player in action. Wes Hopkins, #48, Free Safety for the Eagles. He played in the late 1980s and early 1990s and was an integral part of Buddy Ryan's Eagle defenses that really set the tone for aggressive play during that era. Hopkins paired with Andre Waters to form one of the scarier secondary duos. Both of them wouldn't hesitate to lay a player out, and did so quite often. (Of course Andre Waters sometimes lost track of where the sideline started, but that's something for Dan Dierdorf to whine about.) Hopkins was a smooth safety out of SMU who was a complete player and a fierce hitter. I remember a Monday night game against Houston in the Astrodome (which the run and shoot Oilers of the day had dubbed "The House of Pain"). The Eagles thoroughly destroyed the high-powered Houston offense, holding them to a mere 6 points, and had the receivers running scared because of the hits they were getting. It remains my favorite regular season game of all time. One of the funniest stories regarding Hopkins actually took place in the stands. Hopkins apparently had a relationship going with a girl despite the fact that he was already married. Stupidly, he gave tickets to his girlfriend to a game. His wife, apparently, was on to him and went up to the girlfriend during the game, cold-cocked her, and told her to stay away from her husband.
