Thanks, Chili D./Razzak, for the kind words. I think this place is going to be something else someday and I am the kind of person who has a memory like an elephant, and the brain like one, too, unfortunately. Anway, 19 members in like 4 and a half days. WOW! I was hoping to get that many after like 2 weeks. We are cruising! Let's hear it for "the Gridiron"! Hip-hip-hurray! Hip-hip-hurray... Stumble... stumble!

T-Rave,... THANK YOU for bumping this thread up. Old Chili D. isn't around all too much despite being a participant in the CBFL for his second year this year and wasn't around almost at all for quite some time... BUT, he was a big part of helping me get this site off the ground in the really early days... when we were living an existence quite distant (figuratively and literally) from NFL American football... back in Korea. If it weren't for a chap like him, who helped me turn the wheel back then, mind you, just out of his friendship with me, it might not be spinning round-and-round and "generating" all this (good) energy like it is today. And, THANK YOU, T-Rave, for the THANK YOU!!! ... A couple notes and a little somethin' fun... First,... T,... yes,... we're drawing increasing attention and growing for sure,... but we don't really have 7,000+ members. To see what I'm talking about, go here: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58;a ction=display;num=1042955464;start=125. However, pretty much everybody who has joined since I made that upgrade in the registration procedure is a "real" member. Also,... with all the sudden hubbub in my life lately,... the birthday of our beloved site here, "the Gridron @FantasyFootballer.com" just passed without my announcing it... Yes, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You're now a half-decade-old. You are no longer a... ... You're toddling your way out into the world on your own. I hope I've raised you right. I think I have... In any event, though,... as of what date did "the Gridiron" turn 5??? While this thread here is one of the first ones, it is NOT the VERY FIRST ONE!!! It's not the thread that is the "birth of 'the Gridiron'"... Does anybody think they can locate THAT ONE!?!?!? It's not far, so to speak. In another manner of speaking, we're not far off. Anybody gonna give this the old high school try???

| Is this it? on Aug 28th, 2002, 9:15am, StegRock wrote:Responding to an e-mail from Graham inquiring about Jonathon Wells, Chester Taylor and Brian Westbrook... Of those three, I would have to say that Wells is without doubt the cream of that bunch. Taylor and Westbrook are about even. Taylor has the upside of (at present) being the immediate backup to a seemingly fragile starter, Jamal Lewis. If Lewis stays healthy, though, or they bring in a guy like Jamal Anderson or Ricky Watters if he goes down, then Taylor is useless. As for a "scouting" report, Taylor doesn't do anything for me. I don't know quite how, but he has "Travis Prentice" written all over him. Regarding Westbrook, he is in a mix in Philly with two ahead of him. At this point, I would say he is a 3rd-down back at best. However, I like both of the guys in front of him, Duce Staley and Dorsey Levens, much less than Jamal Lewis and they are both fragile, too. That having been said, as per yesterday's reports, Correll Buckhalter could make it back this season. I actually think he is the class of that bunch. Look out for him for next year at least. At any rate, regarding Taylor and Westbrook, I guess the very small edge for me goes ever so slightly to Taylor. A guy who I like a little bit more than both Taylor and Westbrook is Lamar Gordon. Faulk goes down and he just might be the guy. Just on "high potential" alone I would give him a long look. Now, for some deep sleepers... How about Detroit RB James Mungro (5'9, 214 lbs.) out of Syracuse, who has looked good all off/preseason and has a gimpy James Stewart and a pathetic Lamont Warren in front of him, Tampa Bay RB Travis Stephens out of Tennesee, who also has looked pretty good and is backing up Michael Pittman who has been banged up, and last but not least, Arizona RB Josh Scobey out of K. State, who is behind Thomas Jones, who has not really looked good this preseason, and Marcel Shipp, pulllleeeeze? |

Is it this thread: "Faulk vs. Dillon & Horn", 1 hour younger than the one Mordecai dug up? Quote: on: Aug 28th, 2002, 7:19am I recently received an e-mail from Albert J. His question was... "should I trade Corey Dillon and Joe Horn for Marshall Faulk?" This is my answer... Faulk is the type of guy who can reasonably get 1,300 to 1,400 yards rushing or more with 10 to 12 TD¡¯s and another 800 to 1,000 yards receiving with another 6 to 10 TD¡¯s. Good case scenario, Dillon may go for about the same rushing yardage and maybe around the same number of touchdowns, but he is not much of a threat as a receiver, maybe 200 to 300 yards or so at best and nothing you can bank on regarding TD¡¯s. Horn, I really like this year, do not get me wrong. I think a 1,400+ yard, 10-TD performance may very well be in the cards. The deal seems kind of close, but, hell, with just one player, Faulk, you get roughly 70% or so of the stats the other two, Dillon and Horn, will produce TOGETHER. I would go with the maximize each and every one of my roster spots technique here, i.e., I would rather have Faulk and, let's say, Kevin Johnson, Johnnie Morton, Jerry Rice, Amani Toomer or James Thrash than Dillon and Horn. Anybody else have a take? |

Good try, MC,... and, moreover, I appreciate the pimpage you gave that article Pro Football Weekly magazine did on me back in the day, http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/fantasy_1999/daily _102999.asp,... but unfortunately you went in the wrong direction. What might be closer, but still no cigar, mind you, would have been to go via this thread, http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=53;a ction=display;num=1030609988;start=8, and eventually wind up here, http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/trashtalkin1999.htm, at the old GBRFL "Trash-talkin'" pages That was "the Gridiron's" predecessor and, in a sense, our roots, but that is not "the Gridiron" per se. I'm ultimately talking about a regular thread on "the Gridiron". The original GBRFL web site, of which the original articles page was an extension, was born sometime during the spring of 1999 (behind the desk in the front room of my on-campus apartment at Hoseo University in Asan, South Korea,... where I met Chili on the hoops courts). That's true. But, that's different... Try again...
